Overall Meaning

The song “The Cisco Kid” by War is an ode to the titular character, who is presented as a rough-edged, hard-drinking, gun-slinging hero of the Wild West. The lyrics describe the Cisco Kid as someone who enjoys whiskey and has a friend named Poncho who prefers wine. The two meet at Fort Rio Grande, where they snack on salted peanuts from a can. The lyrics then detail a shootout involving some outlaws who have pinned the singers down at the fort. The Cisco Kid comes in blasting and drinking port, and the two manage to ride off into the sunset, chasing a gringo through a field.

The Cisco Kid is presented as a classic antihero – someone who lives by their own rules and is willing to do whatever it takes to survive. There is an almost mythological quality to the character, who is seen as larger than life and almost invincible. The song celebrates this image of the Cisco Kid, portraying him as a symbol of freedom and rebellion.

The song’s upbeat tempo and catchy chorus have made it a popular radio hit, and it has been covered by a number of different artists over the years. It remains one of War’s most enduring and beloved tracks.

Low Rider band is The Real War Now!

@ethanfisher5789

I know what mean but Im sure they had a huge fan base in their time. Hardly anyone listens to them today because people prefer the SHIT that so called "artists" put out these days. Artists like War and others that existed back when music was actually music produced by musical instruments have unfortunately slipped through the cracks, forever to be almost lost and forgotten. And im sure that in time they will indeed be forgotten.

Saw them live in Gary, Indiana back in the early 70's. Great live band. I wish more people realized how good music was back in those days compared to now. Thank God we have the recordings.

🤘🏾 When I was a little kid my father rode around listening to WAR all the time, along with some Jimi Hendrix , my father is deceased now these songs always take me back to my childhood riding in that hot rod truck with my pops !!!

@kenshiro_977

I can relate but instead my pops would put this on whenever my mom and I would go pick him up from his truck driving job whenever I was a kid, he had it on this cassette tape with a blue mark on it, still wish I had it or at least know where it’s at
