The lyrics of Ximena Sariñana's song "Monitor" talk about being physically distant from the person you love and trying to maintain a relationship through a screen. The opening lines say that even though they talk, they don't know if it will work out. They're both caught up in the illusion of love, but the singer feels like she's going away in a second. She needs to sit and watch from afar. The distance has won against their love, and she can now only see the other person through the monitor.
In the chorus, the singer laments not being with the other person and lying to be alone with them. She acknowledges that they arrive too late to tell each other how they feel. She can see through the other person, even though they're invisible. She can feel them in her dreams, even though they're intangible. The second verse talks about waiting for a response from the other person but only receiving their absence. They have to continue things, even though they don't know how it will end up. The singer needs to be seated to watch but can't escape the feeling of loving someone who's far away.
Overall, the song speaks to the universal experience of being physically distant from someone you care for and the limitations of technology to connect with them fully. The lyrics express the sadness of not being able to be physically close to the person you love and the desire to be with them while acknowledging the reality of distance.
