Stormy Weather
Lena Horne Lyrics

Don't know why
There's no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain't together
Keeps rainin' all the time

Life is bare
Gloom and misery everywhere
Stormy weather
Just can't get my poor self together
I'm weary all the time, the time
So weary all the time

When he went away, the blues walked in and met me
If he stays away, old rocking chair will get me
All I do is pray the Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more

Can't go on
All I have in life is gone
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain't together
Keeps rainin' all the time
Keeps rainin' all the time

I walk around, heavy-hearted and sad
Night comes around, I'm still feelin' bad
Rain pourin' down, blindin' every hope I had
This pitterin', patterin', beatin' and spatterin' drives me mad
Love, love, love, love
This misery is just too much for me

Can't go on
Everything I had is gone
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain't together
Keeps rainin' all the time
Keeps rainin' all the time

Even with 1943 recording technology, she sounds amazing...what a voice!

Stephen Cook

@destiny some modern technology would best be junked, starting with auto-tune and the other garbage that makes mediocre singers sound passable!

So True!!!!!

@Derek Myers What they mean by "even with" is that the quality wasn't great. It's not trash talking the quality- it's true. The quality wasn't great, because they don't have the technology we do now- the point was that if it sounds this good on somewhat poor quality soundtracks, imagine what she would have sounded like in person, or on today's tracks.

@Derek Myers I get that part of the vintage magic are the clicks, pops, hiss and tinny sound. But, can you imagine how her beautiful voice would sound recorded on modern digital equipment? This entire generation of musicians would be stunned by its beauty.

Derek Myers

What do you mean "even with"? If you can't enjoy it for what it is, don't apologize for it for the rest of us. Some of us relish this sound quality.

The things Lena Horne had to endure in Hollywood because she was black were so wrong! A singer of her caliber should have been treated like a queen! I'm glad she lived to see a time when people are judged by their talents and not by their color or appearance. Best Stormy Weather ever!

@Chalma Patterson
A singer of no calibre shouldn't have to put up with that horrid nonsense.

Grit your teeth and put up with it is not a solution, it's an individualistic band aid.
Makes me dwell on how much accomplishment was denied to talented people based on a two tier system.

Grateful Dead

If she went to France or Spain and came back with a new identity no problem.

Chalma Patterson

It was the times they lived in. They obtained greatness in spite of their situation and paved the way for many more. They had respect and dignity and did not want anyone's pity but to just prove themselves, which they did.

Dwell on the accomplishments.
