Superstar
Sonic Youth Lyrics

Long ago
And oh so far away
I fell in love with you
Before the second show
Your guitar
It sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really there
It's just the radio

Don't you remember you told me you love me baby
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby
Baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

Loneliness, is such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait
To be with you again
What to say
To make you come again
Come back to me again
And play your sad guitar

Don't you remember you told me you love me baby
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby
Baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

Don't you remember you told me you love me baby
You said you'd be coming back this way again baby
Baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

My mom was buried with a tape with this song, she loved it, and so do I. I want to be buried with a CD with this song.

easily one of the most odd covers i had ever heard. a band as extremely underground as sonic youth doing the carpenters yet prove they can make it just as beautiful in its chaotic presentation.

The album its off of "If I Were a Carpenter" is a real mix of artists. I don't know if a compilation of covers would get made these days now that people don't buy/listen to albums as much, unless it was a limited vinyl thing. To have Redd Kross and Sheryl Crow on the same CD is kinda wild to look back on it.

@Patrick Sheehy Well first of all, it's not really a Leon Russell song - he never recorded it and is only credited as cowriter. Delaney Bramlett is credited as writer/author too and everyone says he didn't write it. Would you call Layla a Jim Gordon song? Might as well call Superstar a Rita Coolidge song.
Sorry I am rambling, but I would argue that it is a Delaney and Bonnie song that 99.9% of people would have never heard if it had not been for the Carpenters.

Check out the TFUL282 cover. Even weirder and more out there.
