okay, time for a Wendy appreciation post!

i'll just never understand how and/or why Irene and Seulgi are the ones in RV who are promoted the most as the 'dancers' of the group, if that makes sense. like, no shade to any of them but it has always frustrated me how they're always the ones with the most dance moments and even got their own sub division (which i love and everythin'. Monster SLAPS), then there's my girl Wendy who is just on a level of her own, and not many are able to appreciate it because of how much they focus on her INCREDIBLE voice, which is understandable, but as someone who's extremely passionate about dancing and is aware of the actual skill it requires, i can see how Wendy SHOULD also be promoted as the incredible dancer she is.

everyone can dance. that's a given. but that doesn't mean everyone is a talented dancer, which is fine. most idols in the Korean music industry are borderline bad dancers or barely decent; they dance choreographies they practice over and over but rarely ever quite understand what they're doin'. it's their job so they do it regardless, but most of the time they are either not talented enough, or not actually interested (*cough* Jennie Kim *cough*).

now, back to my girl Wendy! let's replay 0:35, shall we? i'll wait for you to watch it too... done? okay! now replay this godly of a pre-chorus one more time and focus only on Winter (for those who don't know who Winter is, she's the girl with bangs on the left), see how it looks SO different from Wendy? she's dancin' what she was told to but she ain't expressin' much. and i'm not talkin' about her 'restless bitch' look, since i know it is some kind of a signature look on her; i'm specifically talkin' about her body language and control. it looks lazy and lacks the energy they are supposedly portrayin' with the whole sound of the song. i'd understand if she would dance 'lazily' when she's belting, but that wasn't the case.

okay so go back to 0:35 and watch our sis Hyo hit it this time (pink haired gurl on Wendy's right). it looks better than Winter's, but it is still lackin' a bit. she's showin' us way more energy than Winter and hittin' the beats correctly but it is not as captivating as Wendy's, and that's where the natural talent comes thru. Hyo has been very famous in Korea for years now because of her dancin', but she wasn't actually as good as she is today back when she debuted in her group, Girls' Generation. she has actually improved a whole lot and is now a good dancer, which is the difference between 'idols' and talent. whiiich brings me back to the point of this long ass post: Wendy's natural talent as a dancer.

i've been followin' Red Velvet ever since they debuted with Happiness, and Wendy has just always made her way into my attention. her control and charisma are a rare sight in this scene. she always matches whatever she's dancin' to, which ain't no easy task. she has not 'improved', she's always been top notch. that's talent, and it shooooould be appreciated! 😍

I've been stanning Taeyeon and SNSD for years. Most of my fangirl time/resources were focused on them, I never paid much attention to RV (even tho they were 'sisters' under SM. Sorry 😔)

Then THIS happened. Surprisingly, Wendy caught my attention. I was like, "Damn girl. Your high notes are as hot as Taeyeon's!"

And then, my journey into Red Velvet happened. I'm now happy to label myself as a Reveluv (still a toddler, tho😂).

Okay, back to the actual topic of discussion. When learning more about RV, then only I found out Wendy herself never considered dancing as one of her strongest points. This girl is wayyyy too humble sometimes.

While she may not be labelled a dancer with god-like skills, she's done REALLY well. Was lucky enough to catch them live in Seoul for the recent R to V concert, lemme tell you our girl Wendy didn't miss a single beat. She looked like she was totally in her element, it was pure joy to watch her perform.

I'm always grateful GOT the Beat happened, we all get to see a different side of Wendy 😍🩵

Edit: okay i didnt know that it would blow up like this lmao. Thank you for the correction as BoA's debut was in August 2000 so Karina was 4 months already and Winter still nowhere to be found lol. For those who might be confused why did i say SM IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL while they are such a "bad company". Its clear enough that they did mistreatmeant and everything but its only them who have the balls to make a collab for this 1-4 generation idols which is pretty insane. We could came to them with their flaws but do not forget to praise their achievement too. And i dont defend SM. I have a lot of things to say to them too as an ELF for a decade. But lets just appreciate what deserve to be appreciated😄

Andd i perfectly know that she is still in her 30s. Its not about the age. Its about her consistency and her love to sing and dance. Being in the industry for more than 20 years, but she is still stand strong and keep improving. She is not limiting herself and always open to something new.
