BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The longest running No. 1 song in 2004 on R&R’s CHR and CRW Rock charts, Never Alone was named "Song of the Year" on each of these charts. The CD has sold over 250,000 units (as of April 2005) and featured the singles Never Alone and Mirror which both garnered much airplay on Christian radio stations. These number one songs earned the trio four 2005 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards (formerly the Dove Award) award nominations, including the prestigious Best New Artist award, Best Rock Song and Rock Album. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.
Another Journal Entry
Their second album, Another Journal Entry, was released on September 27, 2005. The first single from the album, Let Go, had already begun receiving airplay on Christian radio stations. Their next single from this album, I Need You to Love Me, has also received recent some airplay on some Christian radio stations after the album's debut. The album debuted at #3 on Soundscan's Christian album chart, and, as of Oct. 10, is at 85 on Billboards Top 200 Current Albums chart. For The Beauty Of The Earth

For the glory of the skies
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies
[Repeat: x2]
Lord of all
To thee we raise
For the joy of human love
Brother,sister,parent,child
Friends on earth and friends above
For all gentle thoughts and mild
[Repeat: x2]
Lord of all
To thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
For thy church,that evermore
Lift'eth holy hands above
Offering up on every shore
Her pure sacrifice of love
[Repeat: x4]
Lord of all
To thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise
[Repeat: x3]
For the beauty of the earth
BarlowGirl's song "For the Beauty of the Earth" is a hymn of gratitude to God for the breathtaking beauty of the natural world, for the love and relationships we share with others, and for the church and the love it embodies. The song begins with a recognition of the beauty of the earth and sky, and the love that surrounds us from birth. The repetition of "Lord of all" emphasizes the idea that all of this beauty and love comes from a higher power.
The second verse broadens the scope of the gratitude to include human relationships, both on earth and in heaven. Specifically, the song mentions the joy of human love, the bonds between siblings and parents and children, and the gentle thoughts and actions we share with one another. Again, the repetition of "Lord of all" establishes the divine source of this love.
The final verse shifts the focus to the church, and the holy hands lifted in praise and worship around the world. The line "Her pure sacrifice of love" refers to the church's offering of ourselves and our resources to serve and uplift others, and to spread the love of God. The song itself can be seen as a similar offering, a hymn of praise and thanksgiving for all that we have been given.
Overall, BarlowGirl's "For the Beauty of the Earth" is a song of gratitude and awe at the beauty and love that surrounds us, both in the natural world and in each other. It reminds us to be mindful of the blessings we have been given, and to offer ourselves in service and love to others.
