take my changes
BarlowGirl Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've bowed out from this, can I say I'm sick
And now it's time for me to stand up and make you hear me
This world you rob innocence, you never gave us a chance
We were born believing you had all the answers for me

Look out, you will find out
That here I am so far from them so
I take my chances
'Cause I don't live for you
And I'll say what I have to
So, who cares, who cares, who cares of what I do

If we don't speak, who will?
If we don't fight, we're still
Stuck without a voice
And we are tired of being silenced

Look out, you will find out
That here I am so far from them so

I take my chances
'Cause I don't live for you
And I'll say what I have to
So, who cares, who cares, who cares of what I do

We are set apart
We've been chosen now
We are children of the God
So what holds us back?
What's holding us back? Yeah

So, I take my chances
'Cause I don't live for you

And I?ll say what I have to
So, who cares, who cares, who cares of what I do

Overall Meaning

In "Take My Changes," BarlowGirl is standing up against the conformity and expectations imposed on them by society. The song begins with the admission that they've previously bowed out due to feeling sick, but now they are ready to make their voices heard. The song addresses the idea that society often robs individuals of their innocence and free will, giving little chance for individuality or questioning the norm. BarlowGirl, however, refuses to be silenced or follow along with the masses just because it's what's expected of them.

The chorus emphasizes this refusal to conform with the lyrics, "I take my chances, 'cause I don't live for you, and I'll say what I have to, so who cares, who cares, who cares of what I do." They recognize that their choices and actions may not be accepted by others, but they remain firm in their decision to live for themselves and not be controlled by societal expectations. The bridge of the song speaks to the idea that they are not alone in this journey, as they recognize that they are part of a larger group of individuals who have been chosen by God and set apart from society's norms.

Overall, "Take My Changes" speaks to the struggle of trying to maintain individuality in a world that often expects conformity. BarlowGirl encourages listeners to stand up for themselves and what they believe in, even if it goes against societal norms.

The ladies do such beautiful ballad. In His Name. Colossians 3:16 16Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

I was enslaved to addiction for years and time after time, I tried to quit on my own, it was something that I just couldn't do. It wasn't until I surrendered everything to God that I was finally set free. He lifted me out of the depths of my sin. It's going go be 3 years on Christmas and I still have moments that I struggle. The Lord speaks to me through these lyrics and he reminds me that surrendering my life to him is not a one time thing, it's something I must do daily. Praise God for his everlasting love and infinite mercy!!
