He first came to the music industry's attention with his collaboration with, and arrangements for, Keren Ann and his sister Coralie Clément. Finally earning a solo contract after many years of struggle, Biolay released his debut album, Rose Kennedy, in 2002. A concept album, Rose Kennedy looks at early 1960s America through the cataractic eyes of the late matriarch, who went from attending dinner parties to suffering the assassination of two of her sons.
Next up was Négatif, a double CD full of sometimes violent imagery surrounding a group of drifters, which included a disaffected, oddly sympathetic, american named Billy Bob. Biolay released two albums in 2005, A L'origine (translated: In The Beginning) is a darker, denser work than his previous outings, while Home is a light, sunny duet album with his wife, started when they noticed that they needed good road trip CD to listen to while on vacation. He has also written film scores, songs and arrangements for such beloved french stars as Francoise Hardy, Juliette Greco and Henri Salvador.
He worked with Elodie Frégé on her second album Le Jeu des 7 erreurs
(including lead single "La Ceinture") which was released in autumn 2006.
Si tu suis mon regard
Benjamin Biolay Lyrics

{Refrain:}
Trop longtemps, cent fois trop longtemps
{au Refrain}
Trop longtemps, cent fois trop longtemps
Que j' suis tout seul
Tout seul, tout seul
Trop longtemps, cent fois trop longtemps
Que j' suis tout seul
Tout seul, tout seul, tout seul
Tout seul, tout seul
{au Refrain}
The lyrics to Benjamin Biolay's song "Si tu suis mon regard" paint a picture of a lonely narrator who has been alone for too long. The first verse describes the singer smoking menthol cigarettes and watching the ocean, which is full of millionaires' yachts. The second verse talks about the singer waiting for something inevitable to happen while looking at a white wall. The repeated refrain indicates that if you follow the singer's gaze, you will see doubts, people leaving late, the sun receding, and what it's like where the singer lives. The final repetition of the refrain is followed by the same verses, but with a few variations.
The song's first verse creates the mood of loneliness, and it's clear that the singer has been alone for a very long time. Smoking menthol cigarettes, staring at the ocean and watching millionaires' yachts, while he is left alone, highlights his isolation. The second verse talks about the inevitability of time passing and waiting for something to happen, again accentuating the solitude. The repeated refrain emphasizes the idea that the singer is inviting someone on a journey with him to see the world through his eyes.

For far too long, a hundred times too long,
I've been all alone
Smoking menthol cigarettes down to the filter
Watching the ocean roll and sway
With the yachts of debonair millionaires
Who piss, belly exposed, into the sea

People leaving late, late towards the edge of the road
You'll see the sun taking a step backward
Becoming bottle green and how it is where I am

Waiting no matter how much time may be fated for me
Watching the big white wall shifting
Love is an ephemeral ice and glass that shatters
As soon as it becomes triangular
