Out Of Nowhere
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You came to me from out of nowhere
you took my heart and found it free
Wonderful dreams, wonderful schemes from nowhere
Made every hour sweet as a flower to me

And if you should go back to your nowhere
Leaving me with a memory
I'll always wait for your return out of nowhere
Hoping you'll bring your love to me

When I least expected, kindly faith directed
You to make each dream of mine come true
And if it's clear or raining, there is no explaining
Things just happened and so did you

You came to me from out of nowhere
You took my heart and you found it free
Wonderful dreams, wonderful schemes from nowhere
Made every hour sweet as a flower to me

And if you should go back to your nowhere
Leaving me with, with my memory

I'll always wait for your return out of nowhere
Hoping you'll bring your love to me

Overall Meaning

Bing Crosby's "Out of Nowhere" is a love song about a person who unexpectedly enters the singer's life and fills it with love and happiness. The lyrics express the deep affection and sense of gratitude the singer has towards his/her lover. The phrase "out of nowhere" refers to the sudden nature of the relationship, as well as the fact that the person came into their life unexpectedly, as if from nowhere.

The first verse implies that before the arrival of the lover, the singer's heart wasn't free. However, the arrival of the person from nowhere took their heart and freed it, allowing for the blossoming of wonderful dreams and schemes. The following verses show that the person's presence has made every hour sweet as a flower, and that the singer is waiting for their return, hoping that they will bring their love with them.

The bridge describes how the arrival of the person was unexpected, and yet they fulfilled all the singer's dreams. The last verse repeats the main melody and ends with the singer expressing their everlasting love for the person and the hope that they will return.

I’m 18 but imagine if I was 18 in March 1931, I would of been born in 1912, May, Like Perry Como was.

There are four records that essentially changed music over the past 100 years. "Rock Around The Clock" Bill Haley. "I Want To Hold Your Hand" The Beatles. "Rapper's Delight" Sugar Hill Gang. And this one-Bing Crosby's first big hit. It introduced a style of singing-crooning-that remains popular in certain circles to this day.

Righto, Walter. I wish this circle were much larger. Melody, words that make sense and can be understood; surely there will be a return eventually. Not that I'll live to see it. These are dark days for music, but there will always be Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner and Verdi. And also Bing and Frankie. RIP Bacharach.

Now that's GREAT!!
