Béatrice has played the piano since the age of three, which was initiated by her mother, a professional pianist. She later played as a keyboardist in the post-hardcore band December Strikes First when she was 15 years old. In March 2007, after five years of music education, she started composing her own songs.
After a brief stint as keyboardist for Bonjour Brumaire, a French-Canadian Indie Rock/Indie Pop band, she released her solo debut album Cœur de pirate in 2008 on the Québécois independent record label Grosse Boîte. The album found much critical acclaim and was subsequently nominated for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards.

Ton souffle me laissait sans frisson
The lyrics of Cœur de Pirate's song "Crépuscule" depict the fleeting nature of a love affair. The first verse describes the intense desire and uncertainty that arises when their bodies come close to each other. The heat of the moment dissipates quickly, leaving behind a longing to hold hands and continue the connection. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of passion and the uncertainty that accompanies it.
The second verse introduces the theme of time and its transience. Under the sun, they count the hours which wither away like wilting flowers. The love they share is compared to something incandescent, burning brightly but ultimately fading away as it progresses. This reflects the understanding that beautiful stories or relationships often cannot last forever, reminding the listeners of the inevitable impermanence of love.
The chorus emphasizes the nostalgia for the past and the longing for a sense of peace and freedom. The singer hopes that the child within them can find a fragment of joy, laughter, and endless liberty that was once present but seems lost now. This longing can be seen as a search for a simpler, carefree time when life was not burdened by the complexities of adulthood and relationships.
The final verse returns to the theme of time and the impact it has on their relationship. It suggests that perhaps their friendship was the first to assert itself before the romantic aspect came into play. The singer describes how their partner's breath brings a sense of safety and tranquility, protecting them from the harshness of the world. This may imply that even though their love is transient, their connection still holds some comfort and solace.
Overall, "Crépuscule" is a heartfelt reflection on the nature of temporal love and the longing for a sense of peace and freedom amidst the fleeting moments of connection. It captures the bittersweet emotions and nostalgia that arise when contemplating the transience of relationships.
