Born in Rome, Italy, Vianello started his career in 1956. His first successes came in 1961, with Il capello (Hair) and Pinne fucile ed occhiali (Fins, Spear, and Goggles), which both charted up to the 2nd position in the Italian Hit Parade.
Vianello had several successes in the 1960s, such as Guarda come dondolo (Watch as I Swing), Abbronzatissima (Very Tanned), O mio signore (Oh My Lord) which topped the charts, and I Watussi which went up to 3rd. After a less successful period, he re-launched his career in the 1970s, founding the duo Vianella with his wife Wilma Goich. Their main hit of the period was Semo gente de borgata (We Are People from a Small Town) that reached #7. In the late 1970s, he reprised his solo career.
As of 2006, the songs of Vianello were included in the soundtracks of 64 films while the Italian rights-collecting agency SIAE estimates sales of over 50 million Vianello records worldwide.

Umilmente ti chiedo perdono
Edoardo Vianello Lyrics

Se ora il mondo è diverso dal mondo,
Che sognavi bambina abbracciando
Le ginocchia al tuo grande papà
Umilmente ti chiedo perdono
Se le fiabe che oggi tu vivi
Non finiscono come le mie
Con un principe azzurro per te
Se nel cielo ci sono le nubi
Se la vita è un confuso bolero
Se sul mare un veliero non c'è
Umilmente ti chiedo perdono
Se le stelle non sono d'argento
Se ti ho solo parlato d'amore
Se ti ho solo parlato di fate
E parlando
Scordai la realtà
No non piangere bimba ti prego
The lyrics of "Umilmente ti chiedo perdono" by Edoardo Vianello express the singer's apology to a little girl for the world not being as she had imagined it to be while growing up. The singer mentions that the world is now different from the world that the girl dreamed of as a child, where she would embrace her knees against her father's. The singer expresses regret that the reality of the girl's life does not match up to the fairy tales that she had hoped for, with no blue prince to come and rescue her. The singer urges the girl not to cry, even if the sky is cloudy, life is like a turbulent Bolero dance, and there is no boat on the sea.
The singer continues to apologize for his failure to deliver the fantastic stories of love and fairy tales to the girl, but instead only spoke of love and fairies. The singer then admits to being distracted by reality as he spoke. The singer again urges the girl not to cry, even if every passing day feels like yesterday, life can be cruel, and her father no longer plays with her. The singer again apologizes for the world, which appears to have lost its essence, with blue skies filled with poison, and the scent of hay no longer present. The singer concludes by mentioning that even the colors that the girl searches for in the rainbow are missing.
