The lyrics of Gérard Lenorman's song "Je Vis Je Meurs" portray a sense of despair, pain, and resignation. The repetition of the lines "Je vis, je meurs, je crie, je pleure" (I live, I die, I scream, I cry) reflects the fluctuating emotions experienced by the singer. The song expresses a feeling of being trapped or confined, as indicated by the mentions of a prison and a house where the singer survives. The line "Dans la prison où je survis, il y a mon amour qui s'ennuie" (In the prison where I survive, there is my love who is bored) suggests that the singer's confinement is not only physical but also emotional, as their loved one also suffers in their absence.
The lyrics further depict a sense of isolation and detachment from others. The references to "Jetez des orties sur mon lit, brûlez les blés de mes amis" (Throw nettle on my bed, burn my friends' wheat) suggest a desire for self-destruction or a willingness to accept harm from others. The line "Ne venez pas sur mon chemin, vous n'y gagnerez jamais rien" (Do not come on my path, you will never gain anything from it) conveys a sense of bitterness or a belief that others have nothing to gain by associating with the singer.
The recurring theme of fading flowers and closed hearts accentuates the singer's emotional state. The lyrics "fanez les fleurs, fermez mon coeur" (wither the flowers, close my heart) signify a desire to shut oneself off from any sources of joy or happiness. The overall tone of the song is one of desolation, anguish, and a resignation to the pain and suffering experienced by the singer.
