Un momento di luce
Un momento di amore
E poi viene la notte
E poi viene il dolore
Per veder quel che tu vuoi vedere
Cerchi solo te stesso
In un viso qualunque
E alla fine del viaggio
Ti ritrovi da solo
Ma ti basta di chiudere gli occhi
Per veder quel che tu vuoi vedere
Una vecchia chitarra
Che ripete un motivo
E ti fa ricordare
Ti fa piangere ancora
Ma ti basta di chiudere gli occhi
E ritorni a vedere qualcuno
Ma ti basta di chiudere gli occhi
Per veder quel che tu vuoi vedere
. . . . . .
La la la-la-là ra ra la-la-là
La la la-la-là la là a
Ma ti basta di chiudere gli occhi
Per veder quel che tu... vuoi vedere
The song "Basta Chiudere Gli Occhi" by Gino Paoli (translated as "Just Close Your Eyes") is about finding solace in one's memories and imagination. It starts with describing a moment of joy and love, followed by the inevitable sadness and loneliness that come after. Paoli then suggests that one can simply close their eyes and see whatever they want to see, allowing them to escape the harsh realities of life.
The second verse talks about seeking oneself in others' faces, but ultimately realizing that one is alone at the end of the journey. The bridge describes a guitar that repeats a melody, reminding the singer of something/someone from the past that makes them cry. But again, the song reassures that all it takes is for them to close their eyes to see that person/situation again.
Overall, "Basta Chiudere Gli Occhi" is a poignant and bittersweet song about the power of memories and imagination to give us comfort, even in the midst of pain and loneliness.
