Io non T'Amerò per Sempre
Gino Paoli Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of Gino Paoli's song "Io non T'Amerò per Sempre" speak about the transient nature of love and the skepticism towards eternal love. Paoli begins by expressing that he may not love the person forever, but only for a day, a month, a year, or perhaps for their whole lives. This shows uncertainty and a recognition of the impermanence of relationships.
Paoli advises not to trust poets who tell stories of love that have no end, no aftermath. He emphasizes that love is like a currency that needs to be spent every day; otherwise, it loses its value. Love is compared to a thread that can sew together days, months, and years if one does not fear commitment. It is also described as a chain that can anchor time, but if the anchor fails, the boat drifts away.
Lastly, Paoli portrays love as a wound that needs to be kept open. By bandaging and healing it, the pain eventually fades away, and it becomes insignificant. Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of realism and a caution against the expectations of eternal love, suggesting that love should be cherished in the present moment rather than seeking permanence.
