Vergibst du mir
Juliane Werding Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ganz versteckt zur Welt gebracht
Sie weiß nur, zurück nach Haus
Kann sie nicht mit ihm
Warm in einem Korb
Legt sie ihn vors große Tor
Zögert noch, dann läutet sie
Den Klang vergisst sie nie
Vergibst du mir
Kannst du verstehn
Ich muss alleine gehn
Verzeihst du mir
Geh deinen Weg
Schau in dein Herz
The lyrics to Juliane Werding's song "Vergibst du mir" tells the story of a woman who gives birth to a child out of wedlock and is forced to abandon the child in front of a large gate. The woman cannot keep the child with her, and so reluctantly leaves the child in a basket in front of the gate. The woman carries the guilt of this act with her for years and never shares her secret with anyone, causing her great emotional distress. She longs to see her child again one day, hoping for forgiveness.
As time goes by, the woman remains trapped in her guilt and regret, still longing to have her child back in her life. But then one day, her doorbell rings, and to her surprise, a boy who looks just like her appears on her doorstep. The woman recognizes the child she once left behind and takes him in her arms, crying tears of joy.
The song's powerful message is about the weight of guilt and regret and the importance of seeking forgiveness for past wrongdoings. It showcases the theme of redemption and reconciliation with oneself and others, no matter how long it takes.

Kind der bittersten Nacht
A child born in the darkest of nights
Ganz versteckt zur Welt gebracht
Brought into the world in complete secrecy
Sie weiß nur, zurück nach Haus
She only knows to go back home
Kann sie nicht mit ihm
But she can't take him with her
Warm in einem Korb
Wrapped up warmly in a basket
Legt sie ihn vors große Tor
She leaves him in front of the big gate
Zögert noch, dann läutet sie
She hesitates, but then rings the bell
Den Klang vergisst sie nie
She never forgets the sound
Vergibst du mir
Will you forgive me
Kannst du verstehn
Can you understand
Ich muss alleine gehn
I have to go alone
Verzeihst du mir
Will you pardon me
Geh deinen Weg
Go your own way
Forgive me, even if we never see each other again
Jahre ziehen vorbei
Years pass by
Doch ihr Herz bleibt schwer wie Blei
But her heart remains heavy as lead
Keiner je mit dem sie spricht
No one ever with whom she talks
Und ihr Geheimnis teilt
And shares her secret
Sie findet keine Ruh
She finds no peace
Vielleicht hört Gott ja niemals zu
Maybe God never listens
Nacht für Nacht versinkt die Welt
Night after night, the world sinks
Und niemand, der sie hält
And no one to hold her
Es ist so schwer
It's so hard
Ich leb dafür, dich einmal wiederzusehn
I live for the day I see you again
Und dann das Pochen an ihrer Tür
And then the knocking at her door
A boy with her face is standing in front of her
Sie nimmt ihn weinend in ihren Arm
She takes him in her arms, crying
She leans down to him and asks
Schau in dein Herz
Look into your heart
Stay with me, and we both will heal the pain
Verzeihst du mir
Will you forgive me
Vergibst du mir
Will you pardon me

Child of the bitterest night
, brought to the world quite hidden,
she knows only, back home she can not keep him
warm in a basket
she lays him in front of the big gate
still hesitates, then she rings, the sound never forgets you
forgive me
you can understand
I must go alone forgive
me
go your way
forgive me, even if we never go back
years pass by
but her heart is heavy as lead
no one ever speaks to her and shares her secret
she finds no peace
maybe God never hears
night for night the world sinks and no one who holds it
forgive you me
you can understand
i just had to go
forgive you me
it is so hard
i live for you to see you once again
and then
the knock on your door
a boy with her face is standing in front of her
you Takes
him crying in her arms
bows low to him and then ask him
to forgive you tell me
you can understand
, I had to go back then
forgive me you
look in your heart
stay with me and we both heal the hurt
you forgive me
you forgive me
you forgive me
