D d manns tango
Kaizers Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Det er kald November på grenså til desember
Eg ser ingenting, mitt blikk er blindt
Eg har sendt min posisjon. Her er min konklusjon
Eg stoler ikkje lenger på mitt instinkt

Så farvel, farvel ønsk meg lykke og hell
Tenn lys for meg I kveld. Gje min sønn en klem
Og hels fra meg til presten.
Sei nå er eg blitt kristen
En del av den prosessen tok livet av meg nesten.
Det eg trur på kan do aldri ta meg I frå.

For ingen hørte min kommando
Og det er ikkje liv I min tango

Såg opp mot himmelen og min redning dalte ner
Som ei fjør, som ei fjør. Min redning dalte ner
Såg opp mot himmelen
Og min redning blei skutt ner

Som ei fjør, som ei fjør.
Min redning blei skutt ner.

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Kaizers Orchestra's song "Døds mans tango" sets a cold, dark scene of late November on the verge of December. The singer cannot see anything; his vision is blinded. He shares that he has sent his position and reached a conclusion that he can no longer trust his instincts. The second verse begins with a goodbye; the singer asks for good luck and happiness as he bids farewell to the world. He asks for someone to light a candle for him and to give his son a hug, and to let the priest know that he has become a Christian. The transformation has almost killed him, but he believes that what he believes in can never take him away. He acknowledges that no one listened to his commands and that there is no life in his tango.

The chorus speaks of looking up towards the sky for salvation, with feathers falling down as a sign of hope. However, this hope is quickly dashed as his salvation is instead shot down like a feather. The song seems to be about a struggle with faith, the singer having gone through a transformation that has taken everything from him, even as he clings to his belief. He is seeking redemption but is not finding it in the world or the church. The tango, a dance traditionally associated with passion and romance, takes on a new meaning in this song, representing the dance with death that the singer is going through.

I was on my first Kaizers concert this summer in Arendal at Canal Street. Me and my friend was there, we are only 14 years old and are very small so people let us go up in front of them so when the concert started there were only 2 people infront of us, omg the most awesome thing ive ever been to!!

heard or translated to English. As sincronicity would have it, my 11 year old granddaughter, Ava, discovered them about a year ago and unbeknownst to either of us, we were independently obsessed with this music. I just could not believe the odds that I, age 56, her,, age 11, would somehow each discover music not in our native tongue and try to move mountains to learn, listen, translate and share them w/ everyone who would listen. We both put apps on our cell phones to try and enunciate the words properly . The Norwegian language is complex and phonics could never be applied as a learning tool . Try sounding out the silent consonants and the vowel combinations that are opposite of the way we would sound them out. LOL I have fallen in love with the Norwegians and their culture. I implore you to check out Leo Moracchioli (also from Norway) and listen to his cover version of Kaizers Orchestra , Stov Og Sand. He is so funny and can play every instrument and has perfect vocals, and can compete with some of the best drummers you have ever heard. He plays all the instruments ,sing song and back up vocals, performs drums and percussion, and lead,/.bass guitar and then blends them and edits the video and it is him in all the scenes spliced together so that he is the band playing and singing. He is also hysterical. Check out his version of Try/ by Pink. You will laugh your head off. If you would like to contact me, my email is attagirlbaby@gmail.com, user name~Sherry Lowery. Thanks for the reply. Any efforts I have put towards their music in translating lyrics and learning their language has been well worth the effort. If music was the lottery, Kaizers Orchestra would be the powerball winner . I hit the music lottery with this wonderful band.

@SimiDaMan I have seen them live twice and neither of those were in Norway or in Denmark or in Sweden or in Germany :) and I agree with you. Their live shows are so much better than the album recordings.
