Katastroof was founded in the fall of 1977. Four young guys brainstormed to make an one-time folk and small-art show but, thanks to fate, they sticked together and called themselves Katastroof. The obscure performances followed each other, one by one. In those days they performed Irish traditionals and folk songs while drinking and partying in underground Antwerp.
Quickly after that, they wrote lots of songs, inspired by the pub life, sexual sins and the less good sides of the politicians and the priests.
The real breakthrough came when they signed to a label and they recorded their first LP 'Stront Aan De Knikker'. Of course, it was never played on one of the radio stations, but they did become kind of notorious Flemings.
From Antwerp, they got to each youth movement and other places, inspiring the youth and shocking parents.
At the end of past century, Jimmeke left the band, but Katastroof still continued with their obscure songs and great performances.
In 2002 multi-instrumentalist Stef Bef joined the band. New blood that made sure the band will survive the coming decennia. End 2005, Rob Snob decided to trade the Katastroof life for an easier one, and left the band.
Katastroof is from then on a trio with Zjuul, Jos and Stef and sounds way better than ever before. After about twenty albums, they stay the most downloaded Belgium band persevering in the anger.

Zij droeg zij bruin bottinnen en ne rugzak had zij aan
Ze vroeg of 'k in de richting ree van 't folkfestival
Ik antwoordde "da's zeker kind, stap in we zen d'r al"
Want zij droeg:
Geitewolle sokken
Frette volkorenbrood
En farem billen bloot
Jajajaja
Geitewolle sokken
Onder ne parkafrak
Geitewolle sokken
Speelde ze doedelzak
Da volksfestival d'r zen wij heelmaal ni geraakt
Jonge mokkes, veertigplussers, in hun broek of kortgerokt
Chiromaskes, discogrieten, moeders van een groot gezin
Maar al die ferm wijven kunnen kloppen oep hun kin
Want zij droeg:

The Katastroof's song Geitewolle sokke is a humorous song about a hitchhiking girl the singer picks up on his way to a folk festival. The girl wears goat wool socks, carries a backpack and wears brown boots. She asks the singer if he is going to the folk festival, and he takes her along. However, they end up getting lost, and they have to camp in a field for the night. The singer sets up a tent for her, and they spend the night together. Throughout the song, the singer talks about the girl's unique fashion sense and her love for whole wheat bread. He describes how she played the bagpipes, revealing her free-spirited nature.
The song uses humor and satire to poke fun at the hippie lifestyle and their unconventional fashion choices. The lyrics describe the girl's unique sense of fashion, which includes wearing goat wool socks, playing the bagpipes, and carrying a backpack. The song also describes the girl's love for whole wheat bread, highlighting the hippie's focus on health and natural living. Overall, the song presents a lighthearted and humorous take on the hippie counterculture of the 1960s and 70s.
