Your Evil Shadow Has a Cup of Tea
Lemon Demon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Five days in a watery cave.
Another song for the day that I take to the grave.
I gotta be the first to see the specter.
Everybody want to be friends with the nectar protector.

Seventeen skulls in a hole in the woods
Already know of the low down, but not of the goods.
We can't see but lo and behold her,
It's funny how we think with our heads when the shoulder is colder.

This is the truth about it.
You'll learn to never doubt it.
The whole affair is shrouded in living mystery.
So what goes on in your tree, when all you know is
Your evil shadow has a cup of tea?

Back in elementary school,
There was a kid we knew, we considered him cool.
And when his eyes turned red, the principal said
He was gonna go mad from the things in his head.

Seventeen days later somebody told us there was no more school,
And the principal sold us to the ice cream shop down the street,
Where it seemed there was nothing they'd let us eat, so we screamed.

This is the truth about it.
You'll learn to never doubt it.
The whole affair is shrouded in living mystery.
So what goes on in your tree, when all you know is
Your evil shadow has a cup of tea?

It's never too late
To take the chance of a lifetime under the weight
Of life, and chance, and death.
And it's never too far out.
We don't know how the sun became a star.
They say it's always been that way,
But I'll be damned if that's the case.

We'd love to have you as our guest this afternoon.
We'll get the kettle ready, hope you show up soon.

We can talk about life, we can talk about death,
We can talk about film, we can talk about chess,
We can talk about the faceless evil shadow creatures
Underneath our clothes.
We can talk about the government conspiracies
And circumvent the challenges that represent our foes.

It's never my fault.
Take what I say with a big fat grain of salt,
And take my fears away.
We never will break out,
And we'll leave not one thing in our wake.
They say it's always been that way.

This is the truth about it.
You'll learn to never doubt it.
The whole affair is shrouded in living mystery.
So what goes on in your tree, when all you know is
Your evil shadow has a cup of tea?

This is the truth about it.
You'll learn to never doubt it.
The whole affair is shrouded in living mystery.
So what goes on in your tree, when all you know is
Your evil shadow has a cup of tea?
Your evil shadow has a cup of tea.

Your evil shadow has a cup of tea.
Your evil shadow has a cup of tea.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lemon Demon's song "Your Evil Shadow Has a Cup of Tea" are a mixture of nonsensical, cryptic phrases that create a sense of unease and uncertainty. The first verse seems to depict a person's experience of being stuck in a watery cave for five days, and how they are haunted by a "specter." The second verse discusses the discovery of 17 skulls in the woods and the fact that people are often led by their heads rather than their hearts.

Throughout the song, references to evil shadows and mysterious occurrences pervade, emphasizing the sense of unease and strangeness. The chorus "This is the truth about it. You'll learn to never doubt it. The whole affair is shrouded in living mystery. So what goes on in your tree, when all you know is Your evil shadow has a cup of tea?" raises more questions than it answers, leaving the listener with a lingering sense of uncertainty and intrigue.

I like coming up with music videos and narratives to go along with Neil's work, so here goes:

This is the story of a young man's backstory of constant encounters with the supernatural and deranged.

His elementary school friend was host to some bizarre entity, which ultimately destroyed the building. The principal, who never had their best interests in mind, then sold them to an occult madman who used an ice cream shop as a front, keeping the narrator and his classmates locked in the freezer to meet a horrible fate at some point. The children managed to escape, and the narrator reached an abandoned church. As the sunset casts its rays through the stained glass windows of the long-abandoned building, the young man has an epiphany about the impermanence of the sun, and the true nature of the universe.

He wanders down into the catacombs below the church, where he meets the harmless and friendly shadow creatures that hide there from the sun's light. They quickly become good friends, and talk about many things, including the nature of life and the nature of death (controlled by a kind angel who the narrator befriends). They watch films together, they play chess, and the shadow creatures warn him of the crueler, faceless shadows that live above ground and hide among humans.

They also discuss the evil groups infiltrating the government, who were responsible for him being sold to the ice cream shop earlier. The shadow creatures show the young man a secret interview with a government figure, who calls themselves blameless but admits they can't be trusted, and asks for help ("take my fears away"). The shadow creatures say they will not be able to act directly themselves, and that doing so would be far too harmful ("we never will break out, and we'll leave not one thing in our wake"). The song ends with a refrain.

That was probably complete useless garbage, but I enjoyed writing it.

I would kill for a version of this but with the technical quality of a spirit phone track god

@zacharyeYT I see what you mean, I like all of his songs and albums tbh, for some album examples: spirit phone seems the most serious and technical, and that's good to me, nature tapes is more silly but is still a good album for just chilling casually, Dinosaurchestra is lower in exact technical pieces, but it is wonderful in its distinct style all the songs fit into and is a great album to calm down with for me if I'm really upset, and hip to the javabean has its own style that can get mixed up a bit, but it's absolutely amazing and every song gives you a certain vibe while being an absolute banger
