Boine (born 8 November 1956 in Finnmark, Norway) grew up amid the Laestadian Christian movement as well as amidst discrimination against her people. She was asked to perform at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, but refused because she perceived the invitation as an attempt to bring a token minority to the ceremonies. Gula Gula (1989, Real World) was her breakthrough release, and she has continued to record popular albums.

The singer is Sami (yes, indigenous Native Arctic Scandinavia, but not from the Americas...there are indigenous peoples all over the globe) and incorporates traditional Sami music style/"joik" into her work as well. She is also an indigenous equal rights activist. :) More about our people can be found by typing "Sami people" into your browser and the wikipedia article should come right up (google will not let me share a web address here).

Bluetech and Mari Boine are two of my all time greatest favourite 'artists' - I was blown away to find out that Evan had done a mix of her greatness. What a treat - not expecting it all - and it sounds fookin' brilliant too. Love the music.
