Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

La nevicata del'56
Mia Martini Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Si sentiva soltanto il rumore del fiume la sera
Ti ricordi lo spazio
I chilometri interi
Automobili poche allora
Sembrava l'America
E chi l'ha vista mai?
E zitta e zitta poi
La nevicata del '56
Roma era tutta candida
Tutta pulita e lucida
Tu mi dici di sì
L'hai più vista così?
Che tempi quelli
Na na, na na, na na
E Roma era tutta candida
Tutta pulita e lucida
Tu mi dici di sì
L'hai più vista così?
Che tempi quelli
Mia Martini's song La nevicata del '56 is a nostalgic tribute to a bygone era of Rome that the singer remembers fondly. The song is filled with reminiscences of a simpler time when the world was less chaotic and the pace of life was slower. The first verse of the song evokes a sense of peace and tranquility, with the sound of the river providing a soothing backdrop to the singer's memories. There were fewer cars on the road back then, and the radio played songs that people could gather around and enjoy. The second verse paints a picture of childhood dreams and fantasies, with a carousel outside the singer's home and a desire for a fancy dress with multiple layers. The days were sunny and the nights were beautiful, with a moon that was brighter and more enchanting than it is now.
The song takes a melancholic turn in the final verse, with a reference to the snowfall of 1956, which turned Rome into a pristine, gleaming city. The singer wonders if her listener has seen Rome looking so pure and clean since then. The overall theme of the song suggests that the world has changed, and not always for the better. Although the past can never be reclaimed, the singer's memories of that simpler time provide solace and comfort.

Che commento dolcissimo ... È vero lei era celestiale; un animo puro, semplice, buono ❤ Ha avuto la sfortuna di nascere in un mondo di mediocrità che non l'ha apprezzata.
