On November 14, 2018, NF posted a three-second long snippet of “No Excuses.” It was deleted from his Instagram page within minutes.
When the tracklist for "The Search" was announced, an asterisk was at the end of “No Excuses”‘ title, leaving many fans to wonder what it meant.
One theory was that it was, quite simply, just be a part of the title.
It was also assumed just be a common mistake. Oftentimes, tracklists on the back of CDs use asterisks to signify credits on tracks that differ from the rest of the album. It is possible that the image released by NF on June 17th is an edited version of the final back cover for The Search and the digital artist forgot to remove it with the rest of the credits.
It was also theorized to be a teaser of some sort.
With the release of the album, it was found to simply be a mistake.
