"Happy-Go-Lucky Me" has been featured in the John Waters' Pecker, and episode #3.10 of the comedy television program Scrubs.
He was also a songwriter whose songs were performed by numerous performers, including Elvis Presley, Jimmy Dean and Pat Boone. He also had a hit in the UK in 1978 with the morbid country song "Hello, This is Joni" (The New Zealand pressing released by Polydor Records) or on some recordings it was titled as "Hello, This is Joanie (The Telephone Answering Machine Song)" written by Paul Evans and F. Tobias and produced by Jimmy 'Wiz' Wisner. The B side of the 45 rpm record featured a song called "Lullaby Tissue Paper Co". It was written by Paul Evans and B. Wells. It was also produced by Wisner.

When things aint funny
(a haha) Happy go lucky me
Yes, I can smile
When i aint got no money
(a haha) Happy go lucky me
Mmm, I don't care
I got the moonlight
I got the sun
I've got the stars above
Me and my filly well, we both share
This slappy go happy, happy go lucky looovve
Well! Life is sweet ..Whooa sweet as honey
(a haha) happy go lucky me
*pause....music and laughing*
It may sound silly but,
Mmm, I don't care
I got the moonlight
I got the sun
I've got the stars above
Me and my filly well, we both share
This slappy go happy, happy go lucky looovve
Well! Life is sweet whooa yea! sweet as honey
(a haha) Happy go lucky me
(a haha) Happy go lucky me
In Paul Evans's "Happy Go Lucky Me", the lyrics express the idea that one can find joy in life even when everything seems to be going wrong. The opening lines imply that the singer can laugh, even when things aren't funny, showcasing his carefree attitude. The next line says that he can smile, even when he doesn't have any money, which emphasizes the fact that he can find happiness in the small things despite not having materialistic possessions. In the chorus, the singer says that he can still be happy in life because he has everything he needs: the moonlight, the sun, and the stars above. He is also in love, which is evident when he mentions his filly.
The chorus repeats the idea that the singer is happy-go-lucky because he has everything he needs, and he views life as sweet as honey. The lyrics brush off any hardships or difficulties that may come his way, and instead focus on the positive aspects. That's why the phrase "It may sound silly but, Mmm, I don't care" is repeated throughout the song, denoting that the singer does not let anyone judge him for his carefree attitude because he is blissfully happy.
Overall, "Happy Go Lucky Me" has a catchy tune and lyrics that encourage listeners to appreciate the little things in life and look on the bright side.

One of my favorite songs. Nicely included in the movie “Pecker” made by legendary filmmaker John Waters. There’s some odd, slow instrumental version of it in that movie that I find very appealing.

I can remember playing this 45 over and over again when I was a child early 70's. Love it, thanks for posting it. Loved Fish in the Ocean on the other side of this 45.
