"Vive la France!" As an American I am happy to see the Government and the People of France for stepping up and taking a stand. For far to long Europe has just sat back and let the USA act as the enforcer against the Communists in Russia and China. From our (American) standpoint it's about time one of the European Countries showed some backbone. France may prove to be the one that finds its footing, and becomes the leader and prime example for the rest of the EU. I wish every country in the UE would see the bigger picture instead of trying to get the better off the UE in each deal. We need a european army, a european defense industry. We've done it with Airbus, we can do it. France has he expertise in aicraft carriers, we could build 10 and split them in different EU naval bases. Same for fighter planes or tanks, we go separately instead of putting all our knowledge together. If all the UE armies were buying the same european equipment they'd be super interoperable and it would support the European industry. We've been relying on the US too much, we have to be able to side with them most of the time, but on our own terms if we don't like what they do (like the second invasion of Iraq)

You forgot the most important point, France is now the only country with nuclear power in the EU, with that comes responsability and strengh. Russia needs an awkish response from at least one country, that Awkish stance to deter Rusiia or at least to make them think can only comes from France with its Army and nuclear power,that is the only way that Russia will kind of think twice before making a ireparable mistake, Germany can't even deliver the Taurus missile because Germany doesn't want to upset Russia. There’s also another consideration. With the US turning away from involvement in Europe, there are two countries in Europe that have nuclear capability. Now if things heat up, in the case of Putins Russia managing to break through in Ukraine (god forbid), what is going to happen? If Putin is going to take a next step, what would that mean in terms of escalation?
Just like the US primarily and other allies in lesser extent desires to keep the conflict localized and within certain parameters, with Ukraine able to resist but not being victorious as not to cause too many waves in the Kremlin, so too is it in France’s interest to ensure Russia is not able to win. For when Russia does win, and a next step is taken, France will be among the first to respond, and it being the only EU member to have its own nukes, might not want to be forced in that position.
So help Ukraine where you can, to prevent any next developments.

Experiencing western troops in Ukraine is a huge morale boost for Ukrainian armed forces.
If french troops were stationed in Odessa, it would help a lot. The french would and should bring some AD to their deployment. They have SAMP/T and others that also protect the city itself
and grain exports of Ukraine. Not to speak of protection at the border to Moldova.

Russia, right or wrong, sees Ukraine as being in its sphere of influence, and is adamantly against it becoming part of NATO. Beyond seeing a politically agreeable and compliant government installed in Ukraine, I can't see Russia going after or invading the rest of Europe. Such talk sounds disturbingly like the same rational that was pushed for the Vietnam war; that we have to fight there to keep the Communists from overrunning all of southeast Asia and Indonesia.
There are U.S./NATO military forces in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Romania. Any invasion or incursion into any NATO country will mean war with the entire NATO alliance, including the U.S. Even if Russia were to occupy all of Ukraine, at worst I think you'd see a return to a similar standoff like the one that existed on the West/East German border for 40 years.

You are correct. Putin only attacks the ancient regions of USSR which are not members of NATO, like Ukraine, for debatable reasons. He has no justification to attack Poland, member of NATO since 1999. The last arrivals are Finland (2023) and Sweden (2024).
Putin is not stupid, he won't attack a coalition of 32 nations, including nuclear powers.

Russia moved into French "turf" in Western Africa & the Sahel regions. So now that French/African friendly countries which use the Central African Franc (which is nowadays connected to the Euro instead of the Franc) has been attacked by Russia, France is hitting back. This is traditional "spheres of influence" geopolitics. Russia attacks French interests, so France reacts and helps Ukraine to get back at Russia. The interesting thing is everyone talks about the old British Empire, but few realize or discuss the old French/African colonies which are still linked to France and France was/is making money from their resources in Africa at very profitable rates. So now that Russia attacks French interests, France may be in the position that it "has to do something". UK has very few colonial interests in comparison, so it is interesting why the UK helps Ukraine so much. It may just be maintaining the balance and supporting democracy, but French financial interests have been attacked by Russia in Africa, which has rattled the French. The reasons for military action have not changed for millennia.

You missed the real reason the French want to put troops into Ukraine. The Russians have moved against their colonies in Africa and pry'd a few away from France. This troops in Ukraine is much more a response to that take over of African colonies were they can't 'fight back' because they are a bad colonial power. In Ukraine they can be the Hero and pay Russia back for moving against French assets in Africa.
