Ryutaro and Tadashi wanted to combine two words to form the band name; something artificial and something natural. After trying a few combinations, they decided on ‘Plastic Tree’. Formerly, there were rumours floating around the web about the band’s name coming from Fake Plastic Trees but this was always disputed due to timing inconsistencies.
In the beginning, Plastic Tree were influenced greatly by The Cure. There was also a large britrock influence. Plastic Tree played a mix of indie rock, punk, and heavier grunge, characterized by Ryutaro’s generic Visual Kei voice and gloomy lyrics. They went through a period where they played more pop-rock and radio-style rock music, although they have recently returned from lighter music to their original roots.
In July 2006, Plastic Tree embarked on their first world tour that took them to Germany, France and Finland.
On the 23rd of February 2009, Sasabuchi Hiroshi left the band and was later replaced by Satou Kenken..

The lyrics to Plastic Tree's song "ねじまきノイローゼ" (Nejimaki Noirooze) evoke a sense of unease and confusion. The opening lines describe a distant song that prompts the listener to wake up, but also leaves their fingertips feeling cold and numb. Suddenly, a broken stuffed animal begins to speak and claims to know the truth about the listener. The repeated lines about a white flower bloom in dirty hands suggest a contradiction or tension between purity and impurity.
The second verse introduces the image of unfinished chocolate in the mouth, waiting for the strange and uncertain situation to end. The stuffed toy that came undone continues to talk, echoing the listener's dislike for someone through the twisted violin sound. The repetition of the lines about the white flower and dirty hands emphasizes the contrast between cleanliness and dirtiness.
The closing lines pose a question asking what the listener has given the singer. This question is repeated multiple times, perhaps reflecting a desire for clarity or understanding amidst the confusion and uncertainty.
Overall, the lyrics of "ねじまきノイローゼ" depict a surreal and slightly unsettling scene, exploring themes of perception, truth, and the complexity of human relationships.
