1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

The Breaking Part
Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You changed your ways
Like driftwood obeying the waves
I thought us brothers in arms
I thought I knew
I thought I had discovered
The same warmth in you
The one that made us all look deeper
No fate could be sweeter
But now I know that
This is the breaking part
This is the breaking part
And I shaved my head
And I tore my robes
And I searched the marina
Searched all books of old
But I can't for the life of me
Remember your name
Under the cross and flame
Life's a tease
We're left to freeze
And even though there's blessings
In this breeze
I know that
This is the breaking part
My breaking...
This is the breaking part
Auch wir
Finden erst im Feuer zur Reife
Auch wir
Haben nun das Schweigen
Unendlich vervielfacht
Und schinden uns und die Ideale
Beim versuch den falschen Frienden
Aufzubrechen
Ziellose aller Länder
Dies soll uns Aufruhr sein?
And I shaved my head
And I tore my robes
And I searched the marina
Searched all books of old
I thought us brothers in arms
I thought I knew
I thought I had discovered
The same warmth in you
But I can't for the life of me
Remember your name
Under the cross and flame
This is the breaking part
My breaking heart
This is the breaking part
My breaking...
In Rome's song "The Breaking Part," the singer reflects on a friendship that has fallen apart. The opening lines use powerful metaphors to describe how the friend had changed abruptly, like a flag or driftwood obeying external forces. The singer had thought that they were "brothers in arms" and had a deep connection, but now he is experiencing confusion and disorientation. He shaves his head, tears his robes, and searches for the friend everywhere, but his name and warmth remain lost to him. The repetition of the phrase "this is the breaking part" suggests that this moment marks a final, irrevocable break in their relationship.
The song includes a brief section in German, where the singer wonders if similar struggles are happening to others around the world. The final lines return to the refrain, with the singer emphasizing that his heart is breaking. The song is marked by its emotional intensity and poetic imagery, offering a glimpse into the pain and confusion of a friendship ending.
