Enbaxadore hodeiertzean
Ruper Ordorika Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Legearen beso luzeaz harantzago
Heldu ginen hodeiertzera.
Hemen gaude, enbaxadore, enbaxadore
Hodeiertzean.

-Nongoak zarete? Nortzuen ordezkari?
Zer da ba nahi duzuen hori?
Hemen ere bandera behar duzu, enbaxadore
Hodeiertzean.

-Ahaztu dugu nongo ordezkari garen,
Banderarik gabe, aberririk gabe,
Diplomaziarik gabe, agindurik gabe, enbaxadore
Hodeiertzean.

Dena urruntzen, dena puntu bat bihurtzen,
Dena desagertzen den muga lausoan,
Geu ere galtzen garen ertzean, enbaxadore
Hodeiertzean.

Hara hor hegaztia, hara hor albatroa, ez ote da horixe
Geure bandera?
Albatroa bandera, guretako modukoa, enbaxadoreak
Garelako, hodeiertzean,

Dena galtzen den hodeiertzean, hodeiertzean,
Hodeiertzean, hodeiertzean...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ruper Ordorika's song Enbaxadore hodeiertzean tell a story of a group of envoys who have traveled to the town of Hodeierto, presumably for some sort of official business, but have encountered a number of obstacles in the course of their work. The first verse sets the scene, with the envoys arriving in the town after a long journey, their hands weary from carrying the "long arm of the law" (legearen beso luzeaz). The chorus introduces the group to the townspeople, who address them as "enbaxadore" (a Basque word for envoy or ambassador) and ask them where they come from and what they want. The envoys respond that they need a flag for their mission, underscoring their official status and the importance of their work.

The second verse reveals that the envoys have encountered some difficulties in their mission - they have forgotten who their representative is, and they are operating without a flag, orders, or official documents. Despite these setbacks, they insist that they are envoys (enbaxadore) and demand that they be given what they need to complete their task.

The final verse takes on a somewhat more metaphorical tone, with the envoys lamenting the "border" that separates them from those around them and causes them to "lose [themselves] in the edge". They wonder if the flag that they seek is actually a type of bird - perhaps an albatross - and question whether it truly represents their identity as envoys. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, as if to emphasize that the envoys are still on their mission in Hodeiertzean, and the obstacles they face remain.
