Oop Shoop
Shirley Gunter & The Queens Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Have you ever heard of a wish sandwich?
A wish sandwich is the kind of a sandwich
Where you have two slices of bread and you
Hee hee hee, wish you had some meat
Bow bow bow, um
A ricochet biscuit is the kind of a biscuit
That's supposed to bounce back off the wall
Into your mouth, if it don't bounce back, you go hungry
Bow bow bow, um um um
The other day I had a cool water sandwich
And a Sunday-go-to-meetin' bun
Bow bow bow, hee hee hee hee
What da ya want for nothing?
A rubber biscuit? Bow bow bow
At first listen, Shirley Gunter & The Queens's song Oop Shoop may seem like a quirky, nonsensical tune, but upon further inspection, the lyrics may hold more meaning than we think. The opening lyrics, "Bow bow bow, um do that again, bow bow bow," are simply playful sounds that set the tone for the rest of the song. The first verse talks about a wish sandwich, which is a sandwich without any filling - essentially, it's just two slices of bread. The wish sandwich could be a metaphor for the longing for something that is missing, whether it be love, happiness, or something else entirely. The second verse talks about a ricochet biscuit, a biscuit that bounces back off the wall and into your mouth. This could represent a second chance, a do-over, or the idea of things coming back around. The final verse mentions a cool water sandwich and a Sunday-go-to-meetin' bun, which could symbolize wanting something refreshing and satisfying, both physically and spiritually.

I just read a book that claims that she wasn’t part of the group. This book includes quotes from actual members of the group.
