Disney Girls
Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Clearing skies and drying eyes
Now I see your smile
Darkness goes and softness shows
A changing style

Just in time words that rhyme
Well bless your soul
Now I'll fill your hands
With kisses and a Tootsie Roll

Oh reality, it's not for me
And it makes me laugh
Oh, fantasy world and Disney girls
I'm coming back

Patti Page and summer days
On old Cape Cod
Happy times making wine
In my garage
Country shade and lemonade

Guess I'm slowing down
It's a turned back world
With a local girl
In a smaller town

Open cars and clearer stars
That's what I've lacked
But fantasy world and Disney girls
I'm coming back

Love, hi Rick and Dave
Hi Pop, well good morning mom
Love, get up guess what
I'm in love with a girl I found
She's really swell
Cause she likes
Church, bingo chances and old time dances

All my life I spent the night
With dreams of you
And the warmth I missed
And for the things I wished
They're all coming true

I've got my love to give
And a place to live
Guess I'm gonna stay
It'd be a peaceful life
With a forever wife
And a kid someday

It's earlier nights
And pillow fights
And your soft laugh

Fantasy world and Disney girls
I'm coming back

Overall Meaning

"Disney Girls" is a nostalgic and dreamy song that describes the singer's desire to return to a simpler time in life. The lyrics begin with the imagery of clearing skies and a smile, which represent the end of a metaphorical storm or difficult time. The singer then speaks of reality being too harsh for him and how he finds solace in a fantasy world with "Disney girls." The mention of Patti Page and summer days on old Cape Cod as well as country shade and lemonade suggest that the singer is longing for a type of innocence and simplicity that can only be associated with childhood. The song continues with the mentioning of the past and how it has come true: the warmth he missed and the things he wished. Finally, the song speaks of a life with a place to live and a "forever" wife, and how the imminent future holds nothing but earlier nights, pillow fights, and a fantasy world made up of Disney girls.

The lyrics of "Disney Girls" by Simon & Garfunkel evoke a certain nostalgia and longing for the past that many can relate to. This wistful feeling is further heightened by the use of soft and gentle acoustic guitar that characterizes the melody of the song. Interestingly, however, the song was not originally written by Simon & Garfunkel. It was written by Bruce Johnston, a member of the Beach Boys, and was first recorded by them in 1971. "Disney Girls" was also covered by several other artists, including Captain & Tennille and Cass Elliot.

Nostalgic Lady

One of those rare songs that enters your heart the first time you hear it and stays there for a lifetime, even if you don't hear it very often - bit like an old friend you know you can rely on ... "All my life, I've spent the nights with dreams of you ..." How wonderful.

Couldn't possibly have bettered this comment - as much as I tried...

Bill Lynn

Robert P. Wainman

A lovely song - I'm sure your mom can still hear it and it's meaning to your family.

Celeste Lilly

Art Garfunkel doing his version of this song was absolutely beautiful. I saw him perform with the North Carolina Symphony and his voice was so incredibly beautiful I cried. He was so underrated when he was with Paul Simon. I don't think he got the appreciation he deserved. Art Garfunkel sings Like An Angel.

Joshua Lee

I hit the street of the Metropolis during 1977 my golden age as a Manila boy.

Patricia Barnes

Celeste Lilly... So true, though I am a fan of S&G, I have to admit, that I too truly believe that Art never got the credit he deserved as one half of S&G. He was cleated! Sad, but I'm glad Art did well on his own.
