On 15 October 2006, Vicky Leandros was elected town councillor of the Greek harbor town of Piraeus on the Pasok list. Her task concerned the Cultural and International development of Piraeus. She also served as Deputy Mayor of Piraeus. It was announced in June 2008 that Leandros decided to leave her position in Greek politics with immediate effect, stating that she had underestimated the workload and time needed to fulfill her political obligations and that it had become impossible to combine those duties with her singing career.

Hey Joe McKenzie
Vicky Leandros Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hey, Joe McKenzie, wo bleibt unser Wein?
The song "Hey Joe McKenzie" by Vicky Leandros is a humorous story about a bad bartender who ignores his customers and spends his time kissing Cecilia in the cellar instead of serving drinks. The frustrated customers are waiting for their wine, but Joe McKenzie doesn't seem to care. The repetitive chorus, "Lalalalalala, zum Teufel noch mal" (which translates to "to hell with it"), expresses their growing annoyance with the situation.
The song's verses describe the customers' interactions with Joe McKenzie, as they try to get him to serve them. They accuse him of being a gauner (a scoundrel) and threaten to make him come upstairs and serve them if he doesn't stop ignoring them. The last verse acknowledges that maybe Joe McKenzie's distraction with Cecilia is understandable, but the customers still want their wine.
Overall, "Hey Joe McKenzie" is a playful and lighthearted song that pokes fun at a negligent bartender and the customers who must put up with him.
