Though I've had the CD 1998, I just found out yesterday that the entire text is from Psalms 117 & 118. The best to rendition of Mozart's Requiem is the one with a while cover, with just a photo of a burning candle conducted by Herbert Karajan and the Berlin philharmonic. If you buy a different one [I bought 2 when I lost mine] you'll hate.

Laudate Dominum

Laudate Dominum omnes gentes

Laudate eum, omnes populi

Quoniam confirmata est

Super nos misericordia eius,

Et veritas Domini manet in aeternum.

Gloria Patri et Filio et Spiritui Sancto.

Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper.

Et in saecula saeculorum.

Psalm 117

Praise the Lord

Praise the Lord, all nations;

Praise Him, all people.

For He has bestowed

His mercy upon us,

And the truth of the Lord endures forever.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and forever,

and for generations of generations.

Laudate Dominum omnes gentes
Laudate eum, omnes populi
Quoniam confirmata est
Super nos misericordia eius
Et veritas, veritas Domini manet, manet in aeternum
Gloria Patri et Filio
Et Spiritui Sancto
Sicut erat in principio
Et nunc, et semper
Et in saecula saeculorum
Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen

I can’t remember who said it but there a saying that Beethoven’s music is Beethoven talking to God and Mozart’s music is God talking to Mozart. This is a great example of what he meant.

Idk. I sang the solo at a fall concert years ago. I dont remember the solo part, but the part where the choir comes in, is "gloria Patri et folio, et spiritui sancto saecut erat en princcipio et nunc et semper et en saecula
Amen" (translating the best of my ability)means: "glory to father, son and holy spirit. Like the beginning, will always be. And never ends. Amen

Beautifully said. Thank you.

i think is the Musician Writer E-E Schmitt; "Bach is the music that God writes, Mozart is the music that God listens to and Beethoven is the music that convinces God to take a vacation "

The whole piece is amazing but when the choir.enters I am flattened to the ground, such beauty even hurts

Yes, it brings tears to my eyes. I never thought music could do that, but it just did. It is like we touched something or something touched us. It is perhaps an intimation of God’s supreme, distilled beauty.
