As with many musicians back in his younger days, he was first influenced by rock and roll; however, at the age of 20, his music took a more Northeastern Brazilian approach (forro, folk). Zé Ramalho's lyrics however, are very influenced by the socio-economic difficulties faced by the average Brazilian.
In 1975, he recorded his first album, Paêbirú along with Lula Côrtes through the label Rozenblit. Today the copies from this very rare vinyl are highly-priced in the international collector's market.

Que voam longe
Que você nunca
Não sabe nunca
Se vão se ficam
Quem vai quem foi
Impérios de um lobisomem
De uma menina tão desgarrada
Desamparada se apaixonou
Naquele mesmo tempo
Do mesmo povoado se entregou
Ao seu amor porque
Não quis ficar como os beatos
Nem mesmo entre Deus
Ou o capeta
Que viveu na feira
Mistérios da meia-noite
Que voam longe
Que você nunca
Não sabe nunca
Se vão se ficam
Quem vai quem foi
Impérios de um lobisomem
Que fosse um homem
De uma menina tão desgarrada
Desamparada, se apaixonou
Naquele mesmo tempo
No mesmo povoado se entregou
Ao seu amor porque
Não quis ficar como os beatos
Nem mesmo entre Deus
Ou o capeta
Que viveu na feira
Mistérios da meia-noite
Que voam longe
Que você nunca
Não sabe nunca
Se vão se ficam
Quem vai quem foi
Impérios de um lobisomem
Que fosse um homem
De uma menina tão desgarrada
Desamparada, seu professor
Naquele mesmo tempo
No mesmo povoado se entregou
Ao seu amor porque
Não quis ficar como os beatos
Nem mesmo entre Deus
Ou o capeta
Que viveu na feira
Mistérios da meia-noite
Que voam longe
Que você nunca
Não sabe nunca
Se vão se ficam
Quem vai quem foi
Impérios de um lobisomem
Que fosse um homem
De uma menina tão desgarrada
Desamparada, seu professor
Desamparada, seu professor
In Zé Ramalho's "Mistérios Da Meia-Noite," the lyrics describe the mysteries that come with the midnight hour. The song speaks of things that fly far and never stay or return, leaving one to wonder and question who they were and where they went. The lyrics also mention a werewolf and the love story of a lost and abandoned girl who falls in love with him. The lyrics express how these two souls came together despite being outcasts and not fitting in with society's norms. They chose to love each other rather than conforming to societal expectations of being pious or immoral, even if it meant living on the margins of society.
The song's lyrics paint a picture of the enchantment and mystery that often accompany the midnight hour, where anything can happen, and the impossible becomes possible. The love story between the werewolf and the girl speaks to the idea that love is universal and powerful, and it does not recognize social norms or boundaries. The song's lyrics encourage listeners to embrace the mystery and uncertainty of life and to create their own paths, even if they do not conform to societal norms.

Essa música me assustava 🤣 bons tempos. Saudades dos meus avós!
