Béatrice has played the piano since the age of three, which was initiated by her mother, a professional pianist. She later played as a keyboardist in the post-hardcore band December Strikes First when she was 15 years old. In March 2007, after five years of music education, she started composing her own songs.
After a brief stint as keyboardist for Bonjour Brumaire, a French-Canadian Indie Rock/Indie Pop band, she released her solo debut album Cœur de pirate in 2008 on the Québécois independent record label Grosse Boîte. The album found much critical acclaim and was subsequently nominated for Francophone Album of the Year at the 2009 Juno Awards.

On m'a avertie, j'ai foncé quand même
The lyrics of "Ne m'appelle pas" by Cœur de Pirate depict a person who has experienced emotional pain and is trying to move on from a past relationship. The first verse acknowledges the common saying that time heals all wounds, but the singer's wounds are described as intense burns, suggesting that they are particularly deep and painful. Despite trying to maintain a lighthearted attitude, the singer admits to having bled, indicating the extent of their emotional hurt. The lyrics also imply that the person who caused this pain was warned about the consequences of their actions, as they are now wondering about the singer's well-being.
The chorus serves as a direct message to the person who caused the pain, stating that they should not call or message the singer. The singer asserts that they live better without this person and that they will erase their name from their memories because they are no longer wanted or necessary. The singer urges this person to block and delete them, emphasizing that they do not want any contact. By asserting their independence and autonomy, the singer suggests that they have overcome the control or influence this person once had over them.
The second verse reveals that the singer was aware that the person was not a reliable or trustworthy partner, but they chose to proceed with the relationship anyway. The singer acknowledges that they should have given up, likely referring to the warning signs and the poor living conditions mentioned in the lyrics. However, they chose to ignore these red flags. It is strongly suggested that the turning point was when the person tried to become romantically involved with the singer's friends, indicating betrayal and disrespect.
The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the singer's determination to cut ties with this person. By reiterating the refusal to be contacted, the singer strengthens their resolve to move on. The overall theme of the song suggests that the singer has reached a point of realizing their worth and has decided to break free from a toxic relationship, emphasizing their desire to be forgotten and left in the past.
