All I Want
Joni Mitchell Lyrics

I am on a lonely road and
I am traveling, traveling, traveling, traveling
Looking for something, what can it be
Oh, I hate you some, I hate you some, I love you some
Oh, I love you when I forget about me
I wanna be strong I wanna laugh along
I wanna belong to the living
Alive, alive, I want to get up and jive
I want to wreck my stockings in some jukebox dive
Do you want, do you want, do you wanna dance with me, baby
Do you wanna take a chance on
Maybe finding some sweet romance with me, baby, well come on

All I really really want is our love to do
Is to bring out the best in me and in you too
All I really really want our love to do
Is to bring out the best in me and in you
I wanna talk to you, I wanna shampoo you
I wanna renew you again and again
Applause, applause, life is our cause
When I think of your kisses my mind see-saws
Do you see, do you see, do you see how you hurt me, baby?
So I hurt you too
Then we both get so blue

I am on a lonely road and I am traveling
Looking for the key to set me free
Oh the jealousy
The greed is the unraveling it's the unraveling
And it undoes all the joy that could be
I wanna have fun, I wanna shine like the sun
I wanna be the one that you want to see
I wanna knit you a sweater
Wanna write you a love letter
I wanna make you feel better, I wanna
Make you feel free
Hm hm hm, hm
Wanna make you feel all free
All I wanna make you feel free

LYRICS FOR THIS VERSION

I am on a lonely road and
I am traveling
Looking for the truth in men and in me
All my jealousy, my greed, they all unravel me
It undoes all the joy that could be
Oh you´re not real no, no
Do you think you´re fooling me?
With this false pretensions
Our phony camaraderie

All I really really want our love to do
Oh was to bring out the best in me and in you too
All I really really want our love to do
Oh was to bring out the best in me and you too

I am on a lonely road and
I am traveling
Looking for the truth in men and in me
All my jealousy, my greed is my unraveling
Oh it undoes all the joy that could be

Oh but you´re not real no, no
Do you think you´re fooling me?
With your phony camaraderie

Uh lalala lalalala lala

All I really, really want our love to do
Oh was to bring out the best in me and in you too
All I really, really want our love to do
Oh was to bring out the best in me and you too

"All I Want"

Such a GREAT SONG!!!

Few artists can convey happiness like this.

I'm singing my way, after an ER therapy phone session, through a BAD breakup (breaking up *at least* for now).

At least I have my voice.

Very warm, with great range, today. A blessing.

Nothing improves your range like singing with this amazing, impassioned singer-songwriter.

No one like her.

I don't know if she found happiness, but she made art.

There's something really special about the fact that she's playing the song before it's even finished.

Oh my. Look at how young and her voice is so young and strong.

D C she’s my favorite musician of all time absolutely underrated

Micaelle Araújo

Absolutely!

For some stupid reason I've never listened to this woman's music. We're born on the same day so it's time I started. I'm so excited to starting this new musical journey into a genius' life. Just wow

David Rosenblatt

Yes. In a sense, we get to witness the evolution of a song. A great song. And for me, the fact that I've heard & loved the released version of this song for over 4 decades, having the opportunity to hear this "in the works" version is a real blast.

I love this! You can tell this version is way more raw than the one on Blue. She really honed it by the time it was recorded. You can tell she stepped back a little in the final version. Here it makes it more clear the relationship is over, whereas in Blue, there's a sense that maybe the two people in the song are still together.

Glen Cummings

I totally agree Brad, your comment is very insightful. Keith Jarrett's instrumental version is also amazing. In addition to playing piano, he plays soprano sax, tenor recorder and some percussion. I think Jarrett's recognition of her songwriting ability opened the door for her collaborations with Mingus, Pastorius, Metheny, Shorter, Mays and Hancock. She is truly an icon.

Elaine Lang

Yeah, this version is self-reflective about herself, and her emotional interface with relationships in general. The final version transitions to a love song to a particular relationship...this draft has Joni looking at patterns in her relationships. Very vulnerable.

the NOTES she is licking BEFORE autotune was even imaginable.
