Song to the Siren
Tim Buckley Lyrics

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle

And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me, let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sing
'Touch me not
Touch me not, come back tomorrow
O my heart, o my heart, shies from the sorrow'

Well I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing swim to me
Swim to me, let me enfold you
Here I am, here I am
Waiting to hold you

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me, sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am, here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me ?
Were you hare when I was fox ?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sing
'Touch me not, touch me not
Come back tomorrow
Oh my heart, oh my heart
Shies from the sorrow'

I am puzzled as the oyster
I am troubled as the tide
Should I stand amid your breakers ?
Or should I lie with death my bride ?
Hear me sing
'Swim to me, swim to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am, here I am
Waiting to hold you'

As someone who tends to be unemotional, I admit this one gets me a bit.

“The only thing I stole from my father was a fleeting glimpse.”, Jeff Buckley.

@Daniela Martelli when jeff was 12 Tim was already dead for three years, they met in 1975 when Jeff was nine, it was the same year tim died

@voracious viewer i never asked to be your mountain isn't selfish, people do stupid things and they may regret it later but the song doesn't tell of regret, Jeff was unplanned and they broke up, Tim wished he could've been a father to Jeff but they ever met once when Jeff was 9 in 1975, the same year tim died

@Lowell Upchurch he didn't have an disdain for him, he didn't like him and Tim was never really a part of his life, they met once ever when Jeff was 9 in 75, the same year tim died
