Never My Love
The Association Lyrics

You ask me if there'll come a time
When I grow tired of you
Never, my love
Never, my love

You wonder if this heart of mine
Will lose its desire for you
Never, my love
Never, my love

What makes you think love will end?
When you know that my whole life depends
On you (on you)

Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba (ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba)

Never, my love
Never, my love

You say you fear I'll change my mind
I won't require you
Never, my love
Never, my love

How can you think love will end
When I've asked you to spend your whole life
With me? (with me, with me)

Never, my love (never, my love)
Never, my love
Never, my love (never, my love)
Never, my love
Never, my love

"Never my love" came out about the same time l first saw this beautiful girl while in hi school. Every once in a while she would turn and look at me , but there was no indication she was interested in me. After 6 mos. of trying to get her attention, l gave up and started looking for another girl.
One day while l was sitting in my car listening to "Never my love" , and feeling lonely, she walked across the front of my car. I thought " there she goes , doesn't even care how l feel about her." When she was almost out of sight she stopped and gave me the most beautiful smile l had ever seen! My adrenaline rush was so great l couldn't even open the door! I finally opened it and l almost fell out. All the while she stood there looking and laughing. When l walked up to her l was so nervous all l could say was "Hi , Hi, Hi" , my heart was beating so fast l almost passed out. Turned out that she thought l wasn't interested in her. She was right, cause l never made a move toward her, l was also very shy. I almost lost her. We started dating, married and this comming March will be our 54th anniversary , Lord willing. She has been an excellent wife, a perfect mother and grandmother. We are still very much in love, have weathered many storms together. "Never my love" always takes us back to that special moment when our eyes met and it all started from there . She still laughs when she remembers how l almost fell out of car.

Here’s trivia for all of you. Ever wondered why they sound the way they do? Different? For those with very keen hearing there’s an extra voice who isn’t on stage. One of the guitarists with black hair and short is a Filipino who sings with his brother who is the audio engineer and sings with the group when they perform and record. This accounts for why it seems like they were doing the technique employed by the Beatles called ‘sound on sound’. The Filipino brothers have the same voice signature as with most siblings that they didn’t have to do sound on sound. As an audio visual specialist and tv musical producer when I was in my 20’s onwards I was an avid listener and a follower of musicians of my days. This group’s distinct sound was a puzzle for me until one day, they performed in my city. I went to the venue early and hangout where the audio engineer/controller was at the back of the theater facing the stage. There I met the brother who upon learning I’m a Filipino American revealed to me their secret unbeknownst to all of us. They didn’t have to have to do sound on sound both in their live performances and during their recordings. The brothers sing a live duet, you only see one of them on stage. There you go. What a thrill for our listening pleasure.

We danced to this song at our wedding reception in 1973 and packed the dance floor with the same song at my daughter's wedding in 2018. That's the meaning of timeless!!

There’s a beauty to this song that is immeasurable. Lyrically it’s poetic, musically it’s soothing, it has just the right amount of crescendo without being overbearing, harmonically it’s almost haunting.
