Barefoot In the Park
James Blake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Agujerito del cielo
Cuelando el brillo de Dios
Un rayo cayó en tus ojo'
Y me partió el corazón

Agujerito del cielo
Díctame por dónde ir
Para yo no equivocarme
Y así ver mi porvenir

When you're done with me
I see a negative space
What you've done for me
You need to lose some day
Who needs to pray?
Who needs balance? I'll see you every day

Barefoot in the park
You start rubbing off on me
Barefoot in the park
You start rubbing off on me

Ya tengo to' lo que quiero
Ya no puedo pedir má'
Cuando te tengo a mi la'o
Lo pasa'o se queda atrá'
Si te apartan de mi vera
Y te tuviera encontrar
Hasta yo te encontraría
Como el río va a la mar

Barefoot in the park
You start rubbing off on me
Barefoot in the park
You start rubbing off on me

Silence starts turning off between
Sky's looking up I think
I call off the chase
Who needs balance? I'll see you everyday

Barefoot in the park
You start rubbing off on me
Barefoot in the park
You start rubbing off on me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of James Blake’s “Barefoot In the Park” depict the feelings of a person who has fallen in love with someone who has a positive influence on them. The first two stanzas contain lines in Spanish, which roughly translate to “a little hole in the sky, that lets the brightness of God leak through, a ray struck your eyes, and broke my heart apart” and “a little hole in the sky, tell me where to go, so I won't err, and see my future.” These lines describe the overwhelming feeling of love and admiration the singer feels towards their partner, who they see as a guiding light in their life.

As the song continues, the singer sings about how the person they're in love with has changed them for the better. In the lines “when you're done with me, I see a negative space, what you've done for me, you need to lose someday, who needs to pray? who needs balance? I'll see you every day," the singer implies that their lover has filled a void in their life, and that their presence removes the need for any sort of balance, as their lover provides everything they need. The chorus repeats the lines “barefoot in the park, you start rubbing off on me,” showing the extent of the impact their partner has had on them.

The last verse includes lines that translate to “I have everything I want, I can't ask for more, when I have you by my side, the past stays behind, if you were lacking in my era and I had to find you, I'd find you like a river finds the sea." These lines show the singer's feeling of completeness now that they have found their loved one, and their determination to never let them go.

Overall, the lyrics of “Barefoot In the Park” explore the theme of love and the positive impact it can have on a person's life, represented through the lens of the relationship between the singer and their lover, who they see as a guiding light that has changed them for the better.

Damn. The amount of hidden, sad and meaningful messages in this video are unbelievable.

- children witness a car crash symbolising the breakdown of their parents relationship
- they play but what they’re role playing is shooting each other - unconsciously picking up negative ways of living
- young kids body disappears symbolising either that the kid had to grow up too soon / the older kids childhood disappeared.
- girl has dead dove in her hand - symbolising her mourning love as doves symbolise love at weddings
- the children actually symbolise Rosalia and James, the ending suggests their car crashes - their parents rubbed off on them and their lives also ended badly. Starting the cycle all over again.

I’m sure I missed loads, so beautiful but still so true and sad :(

Reminds me of the saying ...

“If you really want to change the world, go home and love your family.”
