Heavily influenced by his idol, Elvis Presley, and the 1950s rock revolution, he is also known as the most famous dancer of the Hula hoop fad. For the last 40 years he has retained his popularity in Italy, selling millions of records and appearing in numerous TV shows and movies (including a short appearance in Fellini's La Dolce Vita, before becoming a famous artist). In the latter respect, he has also been a creator of a comic genre, with his characteristic walking and his facial expressions. For the most part, his films were commercially successful, in fact in the 1970s and part of the 1980s, he was the king of the Italian box office in low budget movies. As an actor, critics point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best effort.
As a director he frequently casts Ornella Muti, Eleonora Giorgi and his wife Claudia Mori. His best movie like director is "Yuppi Du", winner of The Golden Palm at Cannes Festival. He and Claudia are the parents of Rosita, Rosalinda and Vincent Celentano, the latter most notable to worldwide audiences for playing the Satan character in Mel Gibson`s The Passion of the Christ. He also works often as a host for several Italian television shows.
His 1968 song "Azzurro" has regained popularity in 2006, due to it being the anthem of the Italian national football team (the Azzurri) who won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The artist Vincent Fiorello has also created a remix of the song.
His last concert-event in 2012, after 18 years without live performances, was transmitted on Canale 5, with over 9 million viewers both evenings.

ti ho incontrato e non mi lasd piu
mia Michelle
Michelle, ma belle
da sei anni vivi insieme a me
mia Michelle
I love you, I love you, I love you ripeti sempre ma
non hai imparato altro
l'inglese in fondo e facile ma tu
non lo sai
Michelle, ma belle
sont les mots qui
vont tres bien
ensemble
mia Michelle
I want you, I want you, I want you
e tutto cio che vuoi
ma non t'importa mai
sapere cio che penso anche perche
dormi gia
I need you, I need you, I need you
mi hai detto proprio qui
su questo letto strano
che senza dirmi niente ho
comprato per te
Michelle, ma belle
tu cucini come un grande chef
mia Michelle
ma tu forse sei un po' troppo francese
per me.
The song "Michele" by Adriano Celentano is a love song about a man who has fallen in love with a woman named Michelle. The song speaks about how he met her and has been unable to let her go since then. He expresses his love for her and how he needs and wants her in his life. The song starts with the lines "Michelle, ma belle, ti ho incontrato e non mi lasci più, mia Michelle", which translates to "Michelle, my lovely, I met you and never left, my Michelle". He then goes on to say that she has been living with him for six years now.
Through the song, the man repeats his love for Michelle, but he notices that she does not care much for his thoughts and feelings. He notes that she speaks English but hasn't learned much else from him. He repeats the lines, "I love you, I love you, I love you, repeat always but you haven't learned anything. The English is easy, but you don't know it". The song continues to express how he wants her and needs her, but she doesn't care to know what he thinks or feels.
Towards the end of the song, he expresses that he needs her, and she acknowledges that she knows he needs her. He mentions that he bought a bed for her without saying anything because he loves her so much. Finally, he notes that Michelle is an excellent cook, but she may be too French for him. He ends the song with the lines "Tu cucini come un grande chef, mia Michelle. Io ti amo, ma tu forse sei un po' troppo francese per me", which translates to "You cook like a great chef, my Michelle. I love you, but you may be a little too French for me".
