After getting dropped by Columbia Records at 18 years old, singer-songwrite… Read Full Bio ↴After getting dropped by Columbia Records at 18 years old, singer-songwriter Alec Benjamin built a following by playing in parking lots outside of Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts. The Phoenix, Arizona native caught the attention of Jon Bellion, earning a songwriting credit on Bellion’s debut album and later joined him on tour.

To build on the momentum, Benjamin began uploading new songs to his YouTube channel at a rapid clip and eventually earned a viral hit with “I Built a Friend” and a deal with Atlantic Records.

Benjamin connects to listeners by incorporating using his life struggles to tell stories and give meaning to his songs. You can see this in “Let Me Down Slowly,” “Paper Crown,” “I Built a Friend,” “Death of a Hero,” and “If We Have Each Other.”
Benjamin released his first studio album mixtape, Narrated for You on November 16, 2018, and released his first studio album, These Two Windows on May 29, 2020

So to the people who are confused about Alec throwing another Alec into the sea, I'll tell you what I think happened.
Gabriel a lonely man wanted to throw away his grief and sadness,in the video it is portrayed by Alec throwing the other Alec (who is supposedly his grief and sadness) away into the sea. However,that grief and sadness always came back and never left him. And that's how I see the story.

I personally think it’s a metaphor for how he tries to get rid of his troubles and it’s always coming back. The fact that he had to stop eating breakfast to get rid of it made me tear up thinking about it. As he went back to eating breakfast, thinking it would be okay, his troubles came back.

For people confused by the storyline, it is based off of a Bible story. Gabriel was an “archangel” (there is some debate on that.) He delivered visions and information for the future to everyone. The lord sent him around on different tasks alone “Gabriel had no one that he could talk to” Before he was sent to destroy Jerusalem he cured people of their sins “cured people of their transgression... carried their toxic waste.” Eventually Gabriel snapped as he was virtually alone, carrying all of this weight on his shoulders... He is often depicted as an evil man in todays society. But we can perceive him in an innocent light as well. He is remembered for telling Mary that her baby will be called “the son of the most high.”
