Ranjish Hi Sahi
Asha Bhosle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Aa phir se mujhe chhod ke jaane ke liye aa.
Pahale se maraasim na sahii phir bhi kabhi tou
Rasm-o-rahe duniya hi nibhane ke liye aa.
Kis kis ko batayenge judaai ka sabab ham
Tu mujhse khafaa hai tou zamaane ke liye aa.
Kuch tou mere pindaar-e-mohabbat ka bharam rakh
Tu bhi to kabhi mujh ko manaane ke liye aa.
Ek umr se hoon lazzat-e-giriyaa se bhi maharuum
Aye raahat-e-jaan mujh ko rulaane ke liye aa.

Ab tak dil-e-khushfeham ko tujh se hain ummiden
Ye aakharii shammen bhi bujhaane ke liye aa ...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ranjish Hi Sahi, sung by Asha Bhosle, portray complex emotions of love and separation. The first line of the song, "Aa phir se mujhe chhod ke jaane ke liye aa," is an appeal to the lover to return one more time before leaving forever. The singer of the song accepts that there may be no prior attachment or commitment between them, yet pleads for one last chance to fulfill the duties and customs of love before departing. The next lines "Pahle se maraasim na sahii phir bhi kabhi tou, Rasm-o-rahe duniya hi nibhane ke liye aa," express the sentiment that even if there was never a formal relationship between them, the customs and obligations of society dictate that they must fulfill the formality of parting ways even if for a brief moment.

The following lines, "Kis kis ko batayenge judaai ka sabab ham, Tu mujhse khafaa hai tou zamaane ke liye aa," is the singer's contemplation about how to communicate the reason for their separation to others. As the lover is upset with the singer, the singer is suggesting that if the lover is angry, they should still come to fulfill the formalities because everyone else expects it. In the next line, "Kuchh to mere piindaar-e-mohabbat ka bharam rakh, Tu bhi to kabhi mujh ko manaane ke liye aa," the singer reminds the lover of the strength of their bond and urges the lover to consider the uncertainty of love and to reconcile.

The concluding lines, "Ek umr se hoon lazzat-e-giriyaa se bhi maharuum, Aye raahat-e-jaan mujh ko rulaane ke liye aa, Ab tak dil-e-khushfeham ko tujh se hain ummiden, Ye aakharii shammen bhi bujhaane ke liye aa," describe the devastating pain of the singer after the lover’s departure. The singer has lost the ability to find solace in misery, and one can see the pain in asking their lover to come back and make them cry again. The singer has not given up hope of reconciliation and fading expectations that even now they will return, despite the hurt.
