In 1952 she married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with Kurt Edelhagen. Soon afterwards she achieved great success with songs like "Malagueña", "The Breeze and I", and "Dreh dich nicht um" with the Werner Müller orchestra. In 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. Between 1966 and 1972 she was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Show. In 1972, she married the British pianist Roy Budd; they had a son, Alexander, but they divorced in 1979.
In Germany she was a major performer of Schlager music. There she recorded Cole Porter's "I love Paris" i.e. "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe", which sold more than 500,000 copies in (1954.) Like in other countries where she was popular, some in Germany mistakenly consider her a German singer.
Over the years, she has recorded or performed with many international stars, including Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Woody Herman, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Sy Oliver, Claus Ogerman, and Chet Baker.
In 2001, she released a new album Girltalk with harpist Catherine Michel. She is also the mother of singer Eric van Aro, Jr.
ebb tide
Caterina Valente Lyrics

Then rolls out to sea and the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought, will your arms open wide?
At last face to face, and as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I can feel you are love, you are real
Really mine in the rain, in the dark, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb I'm at peace in the web of your arms
First the tide rushes in, plants a kiss on the shore
Then rolls out to sea and the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought, will your arms open wide?
At last face to face, and as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I can feel you are love, you are real
Really mine in the rain, in the dark, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb I'm at peace in the web of your arms
In Caterina Valente's song "Ebb Tide," the lyrics describe the ebb and flow of love and the cyclical nature of relationships. The opening lines describe the rush of emotions that come with falling in love, with the tide rushing in and kissing the shore. Then, the tide rolls back out to sea, leaving a calm stillness, similar to the feeling of contentment in being with a loved one. In the chorus, the singer compares herself to the tide, rushing towards her lover with a burning desire to be in their arms. As they come together in an embrace, she can feel the love and realness of the moment, just like the tide is at peace in the web of the shore.
The lyrics go beyond a simple comparison to nature and explore the depths of what it means to be truly in love. The repetition of the tide metaphor creates a sense of longing and desire, while also highlighting the importance of finding comfort and peace in the arms of a loved one. Overall, the song captures the complex emotions of love and relationships in a beautiful and poignant way.

AL VER LAS POCAS PERSONAS QUE SE TOMAN EL TIEMPO DE RECONOCER ESTAS BELLEZAS Y DARLES EL VALOR QUE ESTAS TIENEN, ME MOLESTA Y ME DUELE. NO PUEDO SOPORTAR QUE OTRAS MANIFESTACIONES PUERILES DE ESTE GÉNERO SEAN ADMIRADAS Y ESTAS HERMOSURAS SEAN VISTA POR ENCIMA DEL HOMBRO.
