Drab Majestyโs first release, a limited-edition cassette of 100 copies titled Unarian Dances, was self-released in 2012 and re-pressed by Lollipop Records shortly thereafter. Drab Majesty then signed with Dais Records and put out the debut LP Careless in 2015. Careless was met with high praise from critics and fans alike, and the original pressing is now a sought-after gem. A year after the initial pressings of Careless sold out, Dais released a compilation titled Completely Careless, featuring Drab Majestyโs entire discography, including two previously unreleased tracks.
On Halloween 2016, a split single featuring King Dude was released on Dais Records. Drab Majesty released their second LP entitled The Demonstration in January 2017.
In September 2017, the band released a single entitled Oak Wood in honor of Cash Askew, a victim of the Ghostship tragedy in Oakland.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, DeMure composes all of the elements of Drab Majesty. However, rather than taking personal credit for the music, DeMure insists that the inspiration for the songs is received from an other-worldly source and that Deb is merely a vessel through which outside ideas flow inward. But Drab Majesty is more than just a musical project โ itโs a methodical experiment in the identity of creativity. The character Deb DeMure is an enigma that eludes all expectations of gender and ego. When DeMureโs imposing 6โ 4โ figure assumes the stage, Debโs playful, harlequinesque appearance, tempered by an ominous body language, and clashing with the dreamy, ethereal melodies comes across as a web of contrasts. The result is a perfect balance between seemingly conflicting messages, between the high and the low, the drab and the divine.

Not Just a Name
DRAB MAJESTY Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We were alone on the Earth
Searching for someone alike
Your words made sense
In the truth you possessed
Believing the call of our kind
Would be fine if we were
Divinely blessed
(You said we would be recycled)
Took ahold of our souls just to
Make us the same
Called me something I wasn't
It's not just a name
Take your time taking minds
Just to stay in the game
Made me someone I wasn't
It's not just a name
We couldn't love but you paired us together
To walk hand in hand
The irony
We couldn't make this world ours
Because it wasn't part of the plan
(You said we would be recycled)
(You said it would be recycled)
Why do we do like you?
Why do we do like you?
You called me something I wasn't
It's not just a name
You made me someone I wasn't
It's not just a name
The song "Not Just a Name" by Drab Majesty depicts the struggles of an individual in a society where conformity is revered over individuality. The opening lines of the song indicate that the singer is searching for something, possibly a sense of belonging, which is shared by others like them. However, they feel alone on Earth and the only hope they cling onto is of finding a light to guide them to those they can relate to. Then comes a figure, who seems to possess the truth, and the singer believes that their words make sense. They appear to find solace in this figure, and they seem to be of the notion that if they stay true to their call, they might be divinely blessed.
However, a sudden shift in tone can be felt when the chorus comes around. It seems like the figure who once provided solace is now controlling them, taking hold of their souls in order to make them conform to the ideals of their society. The singer's identity is threatened as they are made to be the same as everyone else, paired with others who they can't love in a world that they can't make theirs. They are dissatisfied with being made into someone who they aren't as it's not just a name. The repetition in the chorus of "It's not just a name" highlights the importance of individuality and that one's name is a significant aspect of one's identity.
