Fairuz was born Nouhad Haddad in Jabal al Arz, Lebanon. She began her musical career as a teenager. From chorus girl at the Lebanese radio station in the late 1940s, to critical and popular acclaim from the 1950s to today, Fairuz is acknowledged not only for her musical talent and contribution, but also as a cultural and political icon. A symbol of a people, a heritage, a quest for peace, and of humanity. During most of her career, Fairuz reflected two other great artists, Assi and Mansour Rahbani. They wrote the lyrics and composed her tunes. Today, many of her songs reflect the composing talent of Ziad Rahbani who is Fairuz's son. Her songs testify to the Rahbani musical genius, as well as to Fairuz's broad musical background. Referred to as "The Soul of Lebanon" in the 1970s, Fairuz became a pre-eminent figure, a superstar of current music in the Arab world. Together, the Rahbani family is both a school of music and a cultural phenomenon.

In Fairuz's song "Ya Rayt Mennon," the singer expresses her regret and longing for someone who has left her. The lyrics lament the absence of this person and crave for their return. Fairuz's voice fills the song with a melancholic tone, capturing the emotions of heartbreak and longing. The lines "I wish he would come back to me" and "Oh, how I miss you, my love" emphasize the yearning that the singer feels for her lost love. She speaks of the times they shared together and the moments she cherishes the most.
The second half of the song shifts to the singer's imagination of what could have been. She reflects on the times when she missed the opportunity to tell her lover how much she loved him and how she should have shown him more affection. This realization is too late, and the singer longs for another chance to show her love. The lines "But I didn't know how to love you" and "I wish you could see my tears" highlight her sadness and regret for not expressing her feelings earlier.
Overall, "Ya Rayt Mennon" is a heartbreaking reflection on lost love and missed opportunities. It captures the raw emotions of longing and regret that come with heartbreak and the yearning for a second chance at love.
