Nina
Flans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Niña vuelve al mar, salta del mural,
oye tu latir, quiere reflejar
todos los colores que dibujas desde ayer.
Que sientan temblar, se asfixiarán,
una idea feliz debe festejar
todas las ofrendas que lograste en tu ser.

Niña, despierta,
soy yo quien te habla a ti.
(Te habla tu otro yo).
Niña, sonríe,
acércate hoy a mí.

Un arrullo azul, beso maternal,
¿quién respira así un color dual?
Sueñas con serpientes al derecho y al revés.

Niña, despierta…

Niña, despierta…

Al derecho y al revés.
Te habla tu otro yo.

Overall Meaning

In "Niña," Flans paints a vivid picture that seems to revolve around embracing one's imagination and creativity. The first two lines call for the "niña," or the girl, to return to the sea and jump off the mural. The following lines suggest that the girl's heartbeat wants to reflect all the colors that she has been drawing since yesterday. This appears to be a metaphor for her creative energy and the idea that it should be celebrated.

Flans then goes on to suggest that those who feel the temblors of her artwork will suffocate, but a happy idea must be celebrated though all the offerings that she has worked on. This seems to be an indication that the singer wants the girl to continue to use and share her creative gifts, even if others may not always understand them.

In the chorus, Flans's narrator takes the form of the girl's "other self" and talks directly to her, asking her to awaken and smile. The song ends with the line, "Dreaming of snakes forwards and backwards," which follows the theme of embracing one's creativity, even if it means taking things in unconventional directions.

Adios... In 1990, when this album was released, I didn't want to think it was goodbye. No, please not from these ladies with perfect harmonies, and so much emotion when they sang. THEN I heard THIS SONG, closing the album. I was crying; it was too perfect and Adios means Goodbye, no more. FLANS, muy importante en mi vida, antes, ahora, siempre...
