In 2006, she was cast as the voice of Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮 ハルヒ, Suzumiya Haruhi), the main character of the anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The show’s public success would greatly aid her popularity and career in Japan. Her CD single Bouken Desho Desho? containing the opening song of the show sold out in Japan the very day it was released.
Aya Hirano is also noted and credited for her appearance in the popular anime “Lucky Star” also playing the voice part for a main character.
She has a notable ability to change her voice from her usual very high-pitched tone to lower tones to sound more “normal”. For instance, her usual voice sounds closer to that of Mikuru Asahina from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

The lyrics to Hirano Aya's song "Misa no Uta" can be interpreted as a prayer or a plea to God. The first line, "Ki wo tsukete kami sama wa miteru," translates to "God is watching over us, so please be careful." The second line, "kurai yomichi wa te mo tsunaide kudasai," means "Please hold my hand through this dark night."
The next two lines suggest that even when alone, God is always watching and guiding. "Hitori de tooku ni de mo itsumo mitsukidashite kureru" means "Even when I am alone and far away, You always help me find my way." "Shitteru koto wa zenbu oishiete kureru" translates to "You teach me everything I need to know."
The last two lines express the singer's uncertainty and confusion about what to do once she has learned everything God has to teach. "Watashi ga oboetenakutemo nandodemo oshiete kureru, demo zenbu wakatte shimattara dou sureba ii no?" means "Even if I don't remember anything, You teach me over and over again, but what should I do once I understand everything?"
