He released his first albums under the Jovanotti byname to later switch into his real name (Lorenzo), as of the mid-nineties.
Most of his output is hip-hop influenced, although not most of his work should be viewed as hip hop music per se. Many of his songs are not hip hop related and may probably be best viewed as part of the earlier Italian cantautore tradition. Some of his earlier work is also closer to keyboard-heavy 1980s pop. Most of his songs are sung in the Italian language; he also released a Spanish-language greatest hits album. His live album includes a short version of the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight". Jovanotti appears on several international compilations, most notably Red Hot + Rhapsody, a 1998 tribute to George Gershwin, on which he performed "I Got Rhythm". Jovanotti has also appeared in one Luciano Pavarotti's charity concert in 1996.
His CD, Buon Sangue, includes influences from both rock and old school hip hop. It is one of his most innovative works to date. Edoardo Bennato collaborated on one track, while bass player Saturnino co-wrote two of the songs.
One of his most recent CDs, "Ora", breaks new ground with a new style of production.

Jovanotti Lyrics

Che cosa cerchi? L'oro hai uno scopo? Credo
Dove ti trovi? In Italia e come vivi? Suono
Di dove sei? Toscano
Qual è il tuo aspetto? Meno
Sereno di un tempo ma non per questo stanco
A cosa pensi? Al deserto
Qual è il tuo impegno? Immenso
Che risultati hai? Alti e bassi
Che risultati hai? Alti e bassi
Rido di me, di te
Di tutto ciò che di mortale c'è
E che mi piace
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Come va il mondo? Male
Come va il mondo? Bene
Come va il mondo? Male
Come va il mondo? Bene
Rido di me, di te
Di tutto ciò che di mortale c'è
E che mi piace
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Che cosa fai? Vivo
Quando sei in forma? Scrivo
Innamorato? Credo e lei ti ama? A suo modo
Come va il mondo? Male
Come va il mondo? Bene
Che dice il cielo? Tuona
E la chitarra? Suona! Sei felice? A volte
Hai distrazioni? Molte e la salute? Buona
E la chitarra? Suona!
Cosa ti piace? Viaggiare
Tra il dire e il fare? Il mare
Cosa ti piace? Viaggiare
Tra il dire e il fare? Il mare
Cosa ti piace? Viaggiare
Tra il dire e il fare? Il mare
Cosa ti piace? Viaggiare
Tra il dire e il fare? Il mare
Rido di me, di te
Di tutto ciò che di mortale c'è
E che mi piace
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Sei felice? Quanto quanto quanto
Tanto tanto tanto tanto
Qual'è il tuo impegno? Quanto quanto
Quanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
Innamorato? Quanto quanto quanto tanto
Tanto tanto tanto
Come va il mondo? Quanto quanto
Quanto tanto tanto tanto tanto
E tu come stai?
In Jovanotti's song "³", the lyrics are a series of questions and answers about different aspects of the singer's life. He is asked what he is doing (working), what he is searching for (gold), if he has a purpose (he believes he does), where he is from (Tuscany), and what he looks like (less serene than before but not tired). In the chorus, he laughs at himself, at the listener, and at the mortality that surrounds everyone, but despite the flaws of the world, he finds pleasure in it.
The song continues with more questions about the singer's life, including what he does when he's in form (writes), if he's in love (he believes so but she loves him on her own terms), and what he likes (traveling and the sea). The song ends with the final question of how he is doing, to which he simply responds with laughter.
The lyrics of "³" express a carefree attitude toward life, despite its difficulties. Jovanotti seems to be finding joy in the simple things and not taking life too seriously. The chorus, with the repeated "tanto tanto tanto tanto tanto," emphasizes this attitude of embracing life's imperfections and finding happiness in the moment.
