The group itself is composed of musicians Mourad Musset, Olivier Leite and Florent Vintrigner, all of them coming from the Théâtre du fil in Paris, France. At First, La Rue Kétanou was playing in the streets of la Rochelle and the île de Ré. The show was a mix between theater and music. Their motto was "C'est pas nous qui sommes à la rue, c'est la rue Kétanou", meaning "We don't belong to the street, the street belongs to us"
After spending some time living a semi bohemian life, the group ended up meeting Bibou, a member of Tryo, who asked them to be the opening act for the Tryo shows at L'Olympia and for the rest of their tour.
The first album of La Rue Kétanou, En attendant les caravanes (Waiting for the caravans) was finally produced in 2001. After some time doing tours throughout France, the group completed a second album Y'a des cigales dans la fourmilière (Cicadas in the ant-hill) in 2002. In 2004, they released a live album Ouvert à double tour. However, after this album, there were rumours that they were about to break up. Fortunately, these rumours ended up being untrue. Florent, however, spent some time in a related project, the group T'inquiète Lazare. Mourad and Olivier also formed a new band with several other musicians and friends, Mon côté punk.
After this pause, the group is touring again with two new members, Pierre Joseph and Simoné Monticelloni.

Empeste mon haleine brumeuse
De mon sexe vagabond
L'odeur de celui d'une femme
S'échappe en un parfum brouillon
Je pisse contre le mur de Paname
J'ai encore couché au hasard
De l'autre côté de la frontière
Entre le rêve et le cauchemar
Avec une chatte de gouttière
J'ai déchiré ma mémoire
Ma gueule, une photo de toi
Elle traîne sur le trottoir
Le balayeur balayera
J'ai traversé tout Paris
Mes mains lourdes comme des valises
Et la porte de Choisy
S'ouvre sur une balieue grise
Boulevard de Stalingrad, Vitry
Ma tanière grogne là-bas
Plus que trois étages et mon lit
Mon vieux berceau de gueule de bois
J'croise le facteur au rez-de-chaussée
J'lui dis bonsoir, il m'dit bonjour
J'lui demande s'il y a du courrier
Le courrier j'y pense toujours
J'ai déchiré ma mémoire
Ma gueule, une photo de toi
Elle traîne sur le trottoir
Le balayeur balayera
J'ai déchiré ma mémoire
Le balayeur balayera
La Rue Kétanou's Déchirer Ma Mémoire is a powerful and poetic song that portrays the aftermath of a wild night. The singer wakes up with a pounding headache and scattered memories, trying to piece them together as the sun rises over Paris. He's haunted by the remnants of the party, the smell of booze and sex, the taste of regret and emptiness. He feels lost and alone, disconnected from his own body and mind.
Throughout the song, the singer struggles to make sense of his fragmented experiences. He drinks alone at a crooked bar, toasting to no one. He smells another woman's scent on his skin and urinates on the street. He walks through the city, heavy-handed and homesick, until he finally arrives home, greeted by the mundane routine of daily life.
The chorus, "J'ai déchiré ma mémoire", which translates to "I've torn my memory," is repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the singer's desire to forget his mistakes and start over. The line "Ma gueule, une photo de toi," which means "My face, a picture of you," underscores the idea that the singer is trying to escape a past that's tied to a specific person. The image of the photo on the street, waiting to be swept away by the sweeper, reinforces the idea that memories can be discarded, but they leave a mark.
Overall, Déchirer Ma Mémoire is a poignant reflection on the consequences of excess and heartbreak, and the struggle to move forward despite the weight of memory.
