The group itself is composed of musicians Mourad Musset, Olivier Leite and Florent Vintrigner, all of them coming from the Théâtre du fil in Paris, France. At First, La Rue Kétanou was playing in the streets of la Rochelle and the île de Ré. The show was a mix between theater and music. Their motto was "C'est pas nous qui sommes à la rue, c'est la rue Kétanou", meaning "We don't belong to the street, the street belongs to us"
After spending some time living a semi bohemian life, the group ended up meeting Bibou, a member of Tryo, who asked them to be the opening act for the Tryo shows at L'Olympia and for the rest of their tour.
The first album of La Rue Kétanou, En attendant les caravanes (Waiting for the caravans) was finally produced in 2001. After some time doing tours throughout France, the group completed a second album Y'a des cigales dans la fourmilière (Cicadas in the ant-hill) in 2002. In 2004, they released a live album Ouvert à double tour. However, after this album, there were rumours that they were about to break up. Fortunately, these rumours ended up being untrue. Florent, however, spent some time in a related project, the group T'inquiète Lazare. Mourad and Olivier also formed a new band with several other musicians and friends, Mon côté punk.
After this pause, the group is touring again with two new members, Pierre Joseph and Simoné Monticelloni.

{Refrain:}
{au Refrain}
{au Refrain}
The song "Les Mots" by La Rue Kétanou is a metaphorical commentary on the power of language and the different ways in which it can be used. The song imagines a marketplace where different types of words are being sold to various groups of people. The chorus, "Un mot pour tous, tous pour un mot," emphasizes the universal nature of language and suggests that certain words have the ability to transcend individual identities and speak to us all.
The verses of the song offer various examples of the kinds of words on offer at this market. "Des gros mots pour les grossistes" (roughly translated as "big words for the bigwigs") suggests that there are words with a weight and authority that can be used to manipulate and intimidate others. Similarly, "Des mots savants pour les emmerdeurs" ("smart words for the troublemakers") implies that some people use language to assert their intellectual superiority over others. Other examples include "Des mots d'amour pour les amants" ("words of love for the lovers") and "Des mots pour rire pour les enfants" ("words to make children laugh").
Overall, the song seems to suggest that language is a powerful tool that we can use to communicate, express ourselves and even manipulate others. The use of a marketplace metaphor highlights the commercial nature of language, with words being bought and sold like any other commodity.
