Trained at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan, Einaudi began his career as a classical composer, later incorporating other styles and genres such as pop, rock, folk, and world music.

Einaudi has composed the scores for a number of films and television productions, including This Is England, The Intouchables, I'm Still Here, the TV miniseries Doctor Zhivago, and Acquario (1996), for which he won the Grolla d'oro. His music was used as the score for the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning films Nomadland and The Father.

He has also released a number of solo albums for piano and other instruments, notably I Giorni in 2001, Nightbook in 2009, and In a Time Lapse in 2013. On 1 March 2019, Einaudi announced a seven-part project named Seven Days Walking, which was released over the course of seven months in 2019.

In 2005, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

Einaudi was born in Turin, Piedmont. His father, Giulio Einaudi, was a publisher working with authors including Italo Calvino and Primo Levi, and founder of Giulio Einaudi Editore, while his paternal grandfather, Luigi Einaudi, was President of Italy between 1948 and 1955. His mother, Renata Aldrovandi, played the piano to him as a child. Her father, Waldo Aldrovandi, was a pianist, opera conductor, and composer who emigrated to Australia after World War II.

Einaudi started composing his own music as a teenager, first writing by playing a folk guitar. He began his musical training at the Conservatorio Verdi in Milan, obtaining a diploma in composition in 1982. That same year he took an orchestration class taught by Luciano Berio and was awarded a scholarship to the Tanglewood Music Festival. According to Einaudi, "[Luciano Berio] did some interesting work with African vocal music and did some arrangements of Beatles songs, and he taught me that there is a sort of dignity inside music. I learnt orchestration from him and a very open way of thinking about music." He also learned by collaborating with musicians such as Ballaké Sissoko from Mali and Djivan Gasparyan from Armenia. His music is ambient, meditative, and often introspective, drawing on minimalism and contemporary pop.

It really differs, Horowitz has very long, slender fingers, while Barenboim has relatively short and stubby fingers and there is a whole range in between. In general, people who are dedicated to playing piano (or any instrument) are usually very caring for their hands, so that would explain the healthy looking condition

A lot of people are saying both the style and the rhythm are simple, but I disagree. It might help to remember that Einaudi composed this for the award-winning, record-setting movie "The Intouchables," and that this piece played during the scene where the ex-con Driss drives the depressed, quadriplegic millionaire Philippe through Paris at high speed, ending in a police pursuit. That is a lot of emotion to unpack. The way Einaudi managed to capture the alternating feelings of sadness, exhilaration, longing, and excitement was brilliant. And though the rhythm may look "simple" on the sheet music paper, what the ear hears is very different. It took me and my professional musician brother some time to wrap our heads around what's happening timing-wise with the opening lines. It seems to be alternating between 4/4 and 3/4, even though it really isn't. The half notes mixed in with the triplets at the end are further evidence of this. Einaudi mixed the themes and the timing purposefully, to evoke the yin/yang, comedy/drama, exhilaration/depression theme, in my opinion. Plus it's really fun to play, right? 😃

I'm classically trained and for sure it is NOT easy to keep perfect time to Einaudi pieces, in many ways a Bach invention is easier to play. His music also explains classical music to younger people who would otherwise never appreciate it. Very unique and I love it

I watched one of his performances on YouTube and he got up from his seat at the end and stood for a long time while the audience clapped. He had a faint smile and looked calm but no hand movements like waving. He was looking at his audience with sincerity and perhaps thankful that they enjoyed his music. And his 4 band members joined him shortly. Perhaps only someone so unique in character can produce such wonderful and unearthly music. I always had tears flowing down whenever I listened to nuvole bianche. A kind of sweet sadness erupts once the music starts. It's weird. Yes he is brilliant cos he only uses simple and repetitive notes. Unlike LaC. Piano is a wonder. I love it for allowing me to challenge my skill to play LaC flawlessly and yet ve able to enjoy and perhaps share the joy that a beauty like nuvole bianche will bring to all. And also thanks to Rousseau. You are wonderful. I like your videos because your hands are ultra stable.

I got to the mountains a lot. Sometimes, when it's warm and the sun is slowly setting after a long day of running or climbing or skiing, i just take a moment. The gentle breeze ebbs and flows around me carrying no sound but the occasional birdsong or flap of wind and the rustling of blades of grass or a vortex of snow just above the ground, and i get this feeling of eternal tranquility. That's what this song sounds liek to me
