As a singer, she specialized in traditional Spanish and Latin American music: bolero, copla, ballad, ronda, vals, and folk music (Peruvian, Argentinian, Mexican, and Venezuelan). Her contralto voice had a deep resonance and sure melodic footing which must stem from classical training. Her pronunciation was pure Castilian, and her music pure Latin American. Her repertoire encompassed some of the most memorable melodies from Mexico, Peru, Venezuela and Chile and her interpretations close to genuine. She typically sang accompanied by guitars, requintos, and drums. She sang for close to 30 years with the same group, Los Gemelos, formed by twin brothers, Santiago López Hernández and Julián López Hernández, until the death of Santiago in the early 1990s.
María Dolores Pradera died on 28 May 2018 at the age of 93.

The lyrics of "El Tiempo Que Te Quede Libre" by María Dolores Pradera talk about a woman who has been hurt and betrayed by a former lover but has found the strength to move on. In the beginning, the singer tells her former lover that she will not be the one begging for his love, and he will have to find someone else to do it. She has already been hurt enough by him and is not willing to go through that again. She sings that she will not give her whole life to a love that hurts her and pays her with deceit.
The singer then reveals that she has found someone else who loves her sincerely and does not hurt her. She is not crying over the loss of her former lover because she has moved on to someone better. She tells her former lover that he will lose her because she is not coming back. She concludes by repeating that he can find someone else to beg for his love, but she will not be the one doing it.
