Mia was born in 1947 in Bagnara Calabra (province of Reggio Calabria, southern Italy), but soon she moved to Rome with her sister (Loredana Bertè) and her friend Renato Zero. Both of them would eventually become successful singers too.
She recorded her first records as Mimì Bertè, but she soon decided to change her name to the more appealing Mia Martini.
Her biggest hits were "Piccolo Uomo", which was recorded in several languages, "Almeno tu nell'universo", which is considered her masterpiece and has been covered by several famous Italian singers including Mina and Elisa, and "Minuetto" among many others.
She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest twice: in 1977 with "Libera (song)" (13th out of 18), and in 1992 with "Rapsodia" (4th out of 23).
Her career ended tragically in 1995 when she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment at Cardano al Campo, near Milan.

Auf Der Welt
Mia Martini Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No, no
The lyrics of Mia Martini's song "Auf Der Welt" express feelings of loneliness, longing for love, and a search for connection with another person. The singer questions why they are so alone and why they have to be so lonely, highlighting the absence of someone who loves them and gives them hope. The yearning for companionship and the desire to be able to laugh and find joy again are central themes in the song. The repeated questioning of where in the world there might be a heart for them reflects a deep sense of longing and a search for emotional fulfillment.
The singer imagines a scenario where someone reaches out to them with love and support, offering their hand and showing continuous love day in and day out, through both rainy and sunny days. This gesture of love is portrayed as a beacon of hope that would alleviate the singer's loneliness and make them feel less alone in the world. The idea of finding someone who would say "I love you" is presented as a transformative experience that would fill the singer's life with meaning and fulfillment, turning their surroundings into a place where flowers bloom and dreams come true.
The longing for a loving heart and the desire for affection are emphasized throughout the song, with the singer expressing a wish for a bit of happiness in a world where they feel isolated and longing for connection. The yearning for someone to say "I love you" is repeated as a plea for emotional intimacy and companionship that would bring light and warmth to the singer's life. The lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and a deep emotional need for love and connection with another person, painting a picture of a soul searching for a meaningful and loving relationship in a world that often feels cold and indifferent.
In the final verses, the singer expresses a simple wish for a little luck and happiness, emphasizing the basic desire for love and companionship above all else. The repeated questioning of where in the world there might be a heart for them underscores the universal longing for love and connection that transcends individual experiences of loneliness and isolation. The plea for someone to say "I love you" echoes the singer's yearning for emotional validation and a sense of belonging that would bring fulfillment and joy to their life. Overall, the song captures the universal theme of love, loneliness, and the human need for connection in a poignant and heartfelt manner.
